Recording Live Concerts with iFP-999
Hi there
I am looking to get a very partable mp3 playter device, that can also produce good quality recordings of live concerts, using an external mic. Will the iRiver IFP-999 do the job well? Please help! |

well i just got the ifp-799 with the intent of recording live concerts... i bought it yesterday and am going to a concert tomorrow. i am planning on using an ALD (assisted listening device) and plugging it into the line-in jack on the 799. i'm not sure but i'm guessing the 999 has the same basic design... i've never tried a bootleg before so i'll let you know the result after the show...

well i have to let you know. the recording through the ald did not work. too much hassle and i couldn't get ahold of an ald. but i saw james taylor at the hollywood bowl last night, i borrowed a ext. mic from a guy at work it is the Sony ECM-DS70P Stereo Microphone. and let me tell you something... it worked like a charm with my ifp-799. the quality is great and i couldn't be more happy. (besides for those ladies behind me who kept talking!) i highly recomend recording concerts with the Sony ECM-DS70P i found the cheapest price @amazon.com and the only store i found it at is good guys... enjoy

yes, i was able to hear it through the headphones while recording, or even while it's not recording you can still monitor it to test the quality. the format etc. (i'm not to savvy with the correct terms and i dont have the unit in front of me) it was set to ext. mic of course and stereo. 32mhz and 128mb (those are the right #'s but not sure about the units of measurement) i originally had the record level at 45 then bumped it up a few because the talking in between songs by the artist was a little low, but then the crowd directly around me became too loud. it just depends on where you're at and how loud the concert is, you just have to mess with it and at least you can test it through the headphones to get it just right.
