iFP790: "White Noise," USB Problems & Recordin

I am considering buying the iFP-790, but, there seem to have been a few complaints regarding "white noise" and the USB connection with this unit. Does anyone know if this is a problem which occurs in all, or most of, the units of this series, or are there just some unfortunate few who happens to have gotten faulty units?

Plus, how good is the line-in recording with this unit? Is it as good as on, say, the iHP units -- and is this, overall, good?

Decent recording capabilities is more or less a must for me, but there seems to be few reviews, unfortunately, which really talks about the recording quality on the various units...

No one who have any experience with this product then?

Though, particularly, and preferably, experience when it comes to recording. I have been trying to find a decent review which covers it, but so far I've had no such luck.

I was one of those unlucky to strike two units that had the white noise problem and am now waiting for replacements from Iriver.

But the actual recording capabilities of the iFP series via an external mic I found to be very good. If recording at a decent bitrate and sample rate the quality was very good with very little compression sound.

Can't add much more till I get one that dosent have the white noise (which to my ear is VERY noticable)

cheers Henry

No white noise with my unit. I use the line in to record internet radio.. sounds great, although I wish there was a way to insert "track marks" so you could skip songs etc ..

Tune your radio or tv to a place where these is no station (any non station on a radio or a channel like 200 on a normal tv (wont work on a cable tv lol)) and listen, that's white noise, random hiss....there apparentlly different colour noises, like pink and blue...and pink reminds people of "natural stuff"...sadly, me included....ah well...im not normaly like that. Have a search on here for it...
