Unhappy iFP899 driver problems

Hello all,

Got my ifp-899 delivered today and am trying to install to my laptop.

Laptop is Thinkpad X31 running XP Service Pack 2.

Now, Installing the iRiver Music Manager throws up several 'The Installation Failed' messages but at the end it does install. The player appears in the software and I have upgraded the firmware on the 899 to version 1.30.

If I do not run the IMM and plug the USB cable into the 899, it starts the New Hardware routine and recognises the player. Itasks if I want to install the hardware manually or automatically.

Automatically sets the Restore Point, then mentions ifp800.sys in Windows\System32\Dri vers and then the install completes saying that the installation failed because the system cannot find the file specified.

I can only use the player with IMM, which is not ideal.

Any pointers?

Try using the UMS 1.28 software. Do a search for it under the search link and you will find a link to the download. UMS is very nice because it lets you drag and drop using Windows Explorer. Very simple. When changing to UMS be advised that the player will format thus clearing all saved files. With UMS there is no need to use the IMM just use WMP 10.

Would the 1.30 firmware not have the UMS drivers?

If I have updated the 899 firmware to 1.30, would going back to 1.28 be of any use?

All working OK now but now having upgraded the firmware directly on the player (not using IMM) to 1.30, I have lost connectivity via UMS. I have gone back to 1.28.

Is it only 1.28 that gives UMS connectivity? Can I not now upgrade the firmware to get higher rate mp3 encoding?

Any takers on this?

My Line In encoding rate is limited to 96kbps since I had to go back to 1.28.

Any way round this without losing UMS connectivity?
