Question Media Player Recognition?

I have a IFP-190T.

I upgraded to the latest firmware tonight as well as upgraded to the latest Music Manager. I also upgraded to Media Player 10 and did some Windows XP upgrades as well.

Now the problem I have is that I can't get Media Player 10 to recognize my player now. It just says there are no devices connected when indeed my player is connected. Music Manager recognizes the player, but not Media Player 10.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Music Manager.

I do get an error on the install of Music Manager - its says that the following file did not self-register or unregister: cwindows\system32\ ifpsp.dll -

It lets me continue past this on the install and finish.

Any thoughts on why Media Player won't see my device. I am so frustrated with this player at this point. This is not the first time its done wacky stuff like this. I may just order an Ipod online tonight and call it a day.

THANKS SO MUCH:
Nancy

It is possible that you downloaded and installed the UMS version of firmware in which case IMM will not see the player.

Using windows explorer see if the player is listed under my computer......you should be looking for a removable UMS Drive.

If this is the case download and install the normal firmware and not the UMS.

Should this not work out there are some drivers listed on the MS WMP site that may need to be installed. I do not remember if the 190T is even supported but is worth a look.

Thanks sdz:

I checked and I don't see my player in Windows Explorer as a mass storage device.

It all used to work at one point, but since upgrading, it no longer seems to work.

I'll hunt around the Media Player website to see if any drivers are mentioned. I even tried reverting back to the driver on the install cd, but that didn't do it either.

Thanks for the quick reply. Much appreciated.
Nan

Cool Media Player Recognition

Anyone have success with this yet? I have the same products, went through the same processes as Nan, and have the same results... no connectivity recognition.

I've documented the process to include screen shots and sent them to iRiver support today 12/8/05. If I get a solution, and there is still interest, I will post it.

Thanks,
Kudabeen

Considering WMP will need the sp to function, I would say your problem is that music manager couldn't register c:\windows\system32\ ifpsp.dll (which is an iriver file).

Go to the run line or a command prompt and try running:
regsvr32 ifpsp.dll

If it fails send me mail and I'll show you a tool that looks at dependancies to identify why it isn't registering.
