I have an iriver ifp-895 and trying to use an external lavalier mic -atr35s. When I plug it in all of the way only get sound out of one headphone. If I pull the jack out halfway for the mic i get sound out of both ears. I have checked all of my settings for line-in and tried both the stereo and mono settings and none of them work. I have plugged in another mic from a headset and I get sound out of both ears. I am very frustrated because I like the size of the lavalier mic but its just not working for me.
Please help. |

As far as I know it has to do something with the jack an your mic. It might be stereo (3 stripes) or mono (2 stripes). If the line-in is only mono then you will have problems with a stereo mic. You'll have to buy an adapter (correct word?) between the line-in and your mic. Will cost you just a few $/?, whatever. If you don't find any, then go to someone who will exchange the stereo-jack with a mono one (losing the stereo ability, of course).
Hope that helps. anme |

external mic / mono recording
I'm having a similar problem with my ifp-899. The lavaliere / lapel mic I'm using is mono. But when I set my ifp-899 for mono recording, it records nothing! When I set it to stereo, then it records, but only in the left channel.
So here's what I think. I think the firmware is setup to record from a stereo mic, but when it's set to record mono, it records only from the right track. But most(all?) mono mics put their signal out on the left channel (don't they?). I think iriver should modify their firmware to record mono on the left channel. Or, give the user the option of which channel to record from (left or right) when selecting mono record mode. |

I've had the same problem trying to record with a mono mic. I usually use a stereo mic and, when I use a mono mic, I just live with it being in only one channel. I too can't get the mono setting to work, so I leave it in the stereo setting. If it's a big deal to you, you could use an audio editing program to change the file from only one channel to both.
