iFP-999 vs iFP-899

Hi,

I'm considering buying a 1G flash player and am having trouble deciding between the 999 and 899.

It seems that the only advantage the 999 has is a color screen, which for $100 more is not an advantage in my opinion.

I also like the fact that the 899 will take AA batteries which will permit my camera recharbles to do double duty.

It seems odd that iRiver would release two products so closely matched... Am I missing something.

Thanks,

JC

They are quite similar but cater for different markets. Its all a matter of getting a site that sells both and doing a side by side comparison. You will never find a DAP that does all you want but many will do most of your needs.

I owned an iFP 999 for a few months and I really thought it was fantastic. I did many many hours of reserach before buying too. The trouble is that the joystick funtion went wrong and since the iFP 999 is now discontinued here in the UK I can't get a replacement.

The extra money buys you a very high end player with lots of functionality and a very durable metal case and the colour screen is not a gimmick.
Also you get the ability to store and view images and also use it as a limited text viewer.

And the bottom line is that the sound quality was superb with no hiss or distortion issues that I have read so often about on the 799/899.

Hope that helps but I am now looking else where for a new flash player.
Cheers
Martin

iFP-999 vs iFP-899

The iRiver iFP-900 series is not dicontinued but there is a chrinic shortage of the product. Whish is not helping with the high prices these beasts cost. I recently bought a the iriver ifp-999 flash player from UK based Flash Mp3 Players and I am not at all diappointed.

Advanced MP3 Players stated that the iFP999 was discontinued in the UK.
A real shame since it was (for the 2 months of my ownership) a great player.
Cheers

Advanced MP3 Players said the same to me. I was aiming to get the 999, but decided on an 899 when they told be that. I'm not unhappy with the 899, but it will be disappointing if I bought my second choice player based on rubbish information.

I did buy the 899 from somewhere else, so I suppose that would be some kind of justice.

To be fair to "amp3p" they offered to send my iFP 999 off to iRiver Germany for a joystick repair but I thought if the player is already discontinued after a matter of months why bother when it may be out of date and unsupported. I am now looking at iAudio products from Cowon feeling rather let down by iRiver.
