Comparison Chart?
Does any sort of comparison chart exist?
It's hard to tell the differences (if any other than cosmetic) between the different models.

Nope. I belive its just physical. So its up to looks when u buy a 700-800series

I'll follow this one. Can't really see the differences in players on the iriver web site. Does seem the 700 and 800 series do have some extra features.

Is the rest all based on design and looks?

The 700 Series and 800 Series players are identical on the inside. The only differences between the two are cosmetic.
