I bought my ifp 895 last october. Since it came out of the box with DRM support, I *assumed* it would work in any DRM scenarios.
Well you can download music from Napster onto your ifp (if it supports DRM) but only the tracks that you buy - you can't use it with Napster To Go which enables you to download music to your device the same way you can to your home computer. I've seen a few articles here and there which say that Creative and iRiver are working on updates to older devices to make them compatible with NTG. Has anyone heard anymore about this? Should I just wait for a few months before selling my ifp and getting another device which is compatible with NTG? |

the Napster site should have a list of all compatible players.....I remember seeing links on their homepage while I was writing my fourth angry email asking them why I can't sync with them using my H10 or even download any NTG songs when it was working fine just last week.....
.....oh, they will pay........

Yup, seen the NTG compatibility page
iriver's ifp 895 is not supported for use with NTG. However, you still can buy tracks and download them to your device if I understand correctly.
I'm just trying to understand if its even feasible for iriver to produce an update which will make my iriver ifp 895 work with NTG and if so, will they do it and when? |

I just bought a ifp-799T from amazon, and I read the manual from there, there is a clock and a date function inside the player... I'm pretty sure all NTG (Janus) needs to work is a clock, and the 8xx and 7xx have it. It's only a matter of time.

Where did you find the articles regarding NTG compatibility with the IFP series? I contacted Iriver about NTG, and specifically asked if there was a plan to make the IFP series players compatible with NTG.
I must say I was rather let down in the response. The answer was that I could buy songs from Napster and download them onto my IFP player. There was no response regarding future possible compatibility. |

Sigh
I really wish I could find out for certain - if theres not going to be an update to the iFp 895 then I would rather sell it now and get some money out of it. I would totally love to have Napster-To-Go working with a player, thats really what I want. Anyone have any iriver contacts they can check this out with?
Sorry, can't find that old article which I'd seen |

FYI I got a response from iRiver support
Bad news:
iriver Response: (05/09/2005 04:10) Hello, We do not plan to create iFP-Firmware for NTG support. Tech Support Good news (for me anyway) I got a creative zen micro as a gift last month and it ROCKS with NTG! I will still keep my iriver ifp but rarely use it i think |
