Can't reformat H320 to FAT32 with Swissknife

I've read the earlier threads, but I can't reformat my H320 to FAT32 with Swissknife. Or rather, I can reformat it but then Windows doesn't detect it and wants to reformat the drive all over again. (I can't format it to FAT32 with Windows, of course.) Any suggestions on how to get Windows to recognize it once it's reformatted into FAT32?

I'm sorry. Different forums work different ways. Sometimes an answer is only directed to the originator via email. I didn't realize they were all going to post. I won't do it again. Instead of just criticism, might you have some advice? I'm sure with 2,115 posts that you are quite knowlegable.

Well you haven't given any background info on the drive. Is it a new drive you've put in the player, or is it the original drive that is no longer recognized?

Windows should be able to format your player to FAT32 if it is a H320 because Windows can format drives upto 32GB in the FAT32 file system. Everything else it will only let you format as NTFS which of course if not supported by the player.
If swissknife or the windows format tool isn't able to format the drive, then maybe there's a hardware issue with the drive itself.

It's an older player that I got from my sister. She never really knew how to use it. I can reformat it with Swissknife without a problem, however, after it's formatted as FAT32, then Windows can't find it and wants to reformat it as NTSF. Windows won't reformat it as FAT32. It's bizarre because sometimes Media player will detect it if it's plugged into the media port but not the data port. I've been able to transfer some songs to it when Media has detected it and they play somewhat sporadically. Media doesn't detect it at all if it's plugged into the data port though. I'm really new to this so please bear with me. I'm just trying to get it to work.

Just an update ...

I thought I might be having problems with my computer and not the iRiver so I tried connecting the H320 to another computer running XP. It initially detected it as an iRiver (and I was overjoyed) but within seconds it detected it as a Toshiba drive. And I can't access it on the other computer either. Does this sound like a formatting issue (although I have reformatted it as a FAT32 with Swissknife), or do you think I have a corrupt H320 hard drive?
