MK8007GAH into h340
Hey sorry guys my iriver gave me the old check hdd message today which is guttering considering i have owned it for 5 years and gave it hell the whole time.
Anyway i wanna put the mk8007gah in it and i have been looking around for ages for a thread on installs and have been unable to find original threads. The only things i can find are links to them but they dont work. Could someone please point me in the right direction im going to buy a new hard drive today. |

The guide on replacing the hard drive in H3xx players is in the FAQ - here
There are also some useful posts at the end of that thread relating to hard drive information. Good luck with finding an 8007GAH. They're notoriously difficult to get hold of.

i would say 60g would do. I have just had a reply from the toshiba people and they tell me that there are 3 options for replacement hdd and they range in price from approx 300 to approx 500 dollars all 80 gig.... I will ring them because they are not named by the usual way to find out if they are actually suitable for me.
Since installing is a peice of cake what do you need to do afterwards? |

Thanks for that advice. They said bring it into them and show them but it sounds like it should be sweet because he said that it was not zif but the other one he reffered to it as parrallel and said that they work for ipods and that they work for gigabeats. Anyway when i am able to find the 300 odd nz dollars for one i will let you all know how it goes.

Today i brought my 60g hdd for my h340.
It was pretty pricey nearly 500 nz dollars but i decided to do it anyway almost could have got a ipod touch for that but really wanted to stay with iriver because its way better Anyway i was stressing out about how to format it and would it work blah blah had a moment of sketch when it was turning on and off without me telling it too but tis was only due to slightly gammy battery wires. Next sketch was that windows couldnt see it but got past that with disk managment. Because as others have said windows wont let you format over 32g in fat32 i used swissknife as others have suggested. Next sketch was what do i do with this but no ones posts told me what exactly to do probably because as i found all you have to do is rename your drive to whatever you want and then press format! very easy!!! Now i have a fully functional h360 and i am very happy as it was quite an expensive gamble. Long live iriver hope this post helps other people in doing what i have done. yeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa |

When people speak of reformatting the drive, I am a bit unclear how how exactly its done. Is it done through the USB connection while its installed in the H3XX? Or is the formatting done with some sort of adapter for the bare drive and hooked up directly to a PC? Can someone clarify this for me before I shell out the cash for a drive?
Thanks in advance |

You can format via USB - you CAN also do it the other way but it's not necessary. You can use Windows (for smaller drives) or a program called Swissknife (search around the site & you'll find plenty of info about it - free download, doesn't like Windows Vista). Make sure you use FAT32 when you format!!!
