Hi every1
I just bought the used h320 of ebay and apparently there is some problem with hard drive (can't load more then 2Gb data cause the disk just slows to such a level i loose patience with it I did the scan for errors from explorer consol on windows but it didn't come up with any and i'm a bit tired of finding the cause of it. This brings me to the heart of the matter. I did a search on previous posts but there so many i get lost before finding a proper solution and my question is this: Will and of the Hdd from this SHOP work with h320? I mean will they have the same connector and fit in case (says it's IDE so it's good right?) I particulary interested in MK-4009GAL and MK-3008GAL |

Basically, you need to get the older model number Toshiba drives -- as far as I know, all of the new drives are ZIF. I'd recommend getting the MK3006GAL if you can get your hands on one -- I've been using one in my H320 for more than a year with no problems (in spite of dropping my player many times). Many of us have tried to find the MK4007GAL, the only 40 GB drive that will fit into an H320 without modifying the player, but only a handful of us have managed to get one -- they are not commonly available outside of Japan. Try searching previous threads if you want to learn more. |

All the drives listed in that shop use ZIF connectors. Check the Toshiba website if in any doubt.

I guess it was too good to be true
Managed to pass chkdsk again this morning and it looks like the drive is functioning a little better (no major hangups during copying the files)but still can make a full format from windows level. By the way is there any adapter for US charger to work with European power sockets cause it take ages (over 6 hours) to fully recharge my battery with the USB cabel |

If you have the original charger then any US-EU adapter will do, since it works at 100 - 240V.

Yep that one's compatible. I've written an FAQ on selecting the right hard drive for your player (link in my signature), which might be useful to you.

HDD replacement H320
I'm pretty sure that my HDD on my H320 needs replacement it has been dropped once I think but also is over 5 years old and bounces around in my work bag and Gym Bag etc all the time and is getting harder and harder to read Mp3's. I have tried to get all of the info off it to back up but got as much as i could and lost the rest. Then my Home computer that I was using failed too and I lost all my MP3's and the Home grown Music that I had done as well about 3 weeks work in total on CUbase LE but that's another story. Anyway thanks for the HDD FAQs and I will hopefully source a compatible drive using the info from Shadesbass. I wish now I have bought a H340 at the time as it seems to be more upgradable due to the bigger case size. I guess size does matter even if it is only 3mm.

Hello Dave and congrats on your first post.
If you want to have another go at backing up you may get better results using the windows error checking function before backing up (My computer > right click on your player > properties > tools > error checking > and tick both the automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors boxes ) This will take quite a while to complete so you will need your charger hooked up. If you are going for a new hard drive the mk3006gal is probably the highest capacity for h320 that you will find readily advailable. It is advisable not to get a apple/ipod branded one as they have been known to have some compatability issuses. Santech's ebay shop has the 30Gb mk3006gal NEW ! TOSHIBA 30GB MK3006GAL 1.8" HARD DRIVE W/WARRANTY - eBay Internal Desktop, Hard Drives, Drives Storage, Computers Networking. (end time 29-Sep-08 11:21:57 AEST) if thats any help.I've dealt with them before and found them to be quite good and competitive.Though ,sometimes , the drives do pop up cheaper elsewhere |

David,
After I install my new 32gig flash drive in my H320, I think it's going to be the hottest Rockbox out there!! I have a H340 and while it's a powerhouse, esthetically, I lik my H320 better. With 32gig of lighter weight, more reliable, flash? It'll be the 'cat's pajamas.' You might want to check out the cf modification page at Rockbox, it has great info on flash upgrades. The card to IDE adaptor was around $10 from 'DealXtreme Ebay' . NewEgg has the A-Data 32 gb cards on sale for $67. For less than $80 you assemble a lightweight, flash based player that's only 8gig shy of a stock H340. And you're already prepared for the 64 gig flashcard, 128 gig flashcard, 256 gig... Check it out. I think the potential for flash memory will make the H320 the 'ultimate' iRiver music player. piscator |
