80 gb upgrade and Rockbox/iriver firmware

Hi,

A few questions as I'm about to upgrade my h340 to an h380.

Will the iriver firmware need to be upgraded once the new drive is in? I was using 1.29k.

Can I just copy my Rockbox files from my old 40 gb to my pc, instal the new drive, then do all the Swissknife partitioning/formatting, and then recopy those same Rockbox files back onto the new 80 gb??

Or do I have to something else, like reloading a whole new Rockbox, as in re-flashing a 1.29k native firmware again.

One last thing about the playlist and directory limits. I can't find anything that says if I'll be able to shuffle all of my music, as it will be about 12,800 files. I know the directory limit (or playlist, don't have h340 near me) is 10,000, so I have no idea what will happen.

I'm sooo dense with this stuff.

I just want to make sure this goes ok, thanks for any help, it will be greatly appreciated.

When i done mine, i just copied everything that was on the 40GB drive and pasted it on to the 80GB drive. I also renamed it H100 with swissknife(as i have the H140).

Renaming the drive isn't essential (you should be able to name it anything you want), but making sure it's formatted as FAT32 is.

Many thanks for your answers.

As no one mentioned the iriver firmware, I'm guessing this stays as 1.29K or I can get by on the older version?

Thanks again.

If you are happy with the way your player works before you change the drive then just copy it straight over, including Rockbox folders. The only thing you will have to do again is configure your settings.

Keep in mind that the iRiver firmware is not on your HD. I just upgraded to the Toshiba 80GB. In my case, I just downloaded the latest daily build, unzipped it to the 80GB, which was hooked up as an external USP drive, xcopied over my file tree and then the content, replaced/installed the drive [did a case mod], put it together, set my configuration and it works like a charm!

Hey, I'm planning on upgrading to a 60GB disk (10GB of my 40GB disk has died) - once I've replaced it, do I have to do anything more than installing rockbox as shown on their website and then transfering all of my music onto it? Do I need to bother with all this SwissKnife stuff? Oh and where did you get your 80GB disks from? I can't seem to find them anywhere and the only one on eBay is twice the price of a 60GB one!!
