H320 with bluetooth..
..almost. I just need to ask a few techical things.. I have the Logitech bluetooth headphones for mp3 (which sound fantasic btw), but i wasnt really happy with having the little black box sitting on top of my h320. So i decided to put it inside my h320's case and run it off the iRiver's battery. I plugged the battery into the bluetooth transmitter and it worked perfectly, however i need to run both the transmitter and the player at the same time. I was wondering would it work if i connect them with a parallel circuit or do i have to go with series?
I already know all the parts fit inside the case.. if this works it will be awesome! ill have a wireless bluetooth h320 and still 2 free headphone jacks

Are you sure this is a good idea. I mean what aobut the long time effects on the battery?

I dont know the voltage of the battery, it doesnt say anywhere and i cant find the full specs anywhere on the net. Ill take pictures tomorrow.
What do you mean long time effects? i understand the battery will drain quicker, but i have great battery life already and the battery that was originally in the adapter was only very small and lasted 8 hours, so they dont use much power. I have plenty of room if i remove the blue padding and cut a few things off the adaptor.. i have to cut the charger plug off meaning theres no going back:P heres a link to the headphones in question: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10679

I can't understand something though...How are you going to connect the bluetooth transmitter internaly with the player? I'm not talking about power...
EDIT: Oh, and another thing... Will the transmitter be always on even if you don't use your Bluetooth Headphones? Last edited by Yngwiejo : March 2nd, 2006 at 06:15 AM. |

Is this the adapter/headphone set you are referring to?
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10679 Is the quality good enough to warrant undertaking such a hack?

That would be a brave hack!
No idea if there is enough room and if the battery voltage is right. As for the sound signal you can probably tap off the line out.
I suggest you fit an external power swich for the bluetooth unit. It's a sain safety feature and you may have to charge your Iriver a lot otherwise if the idle power consumption is high Cheers /Patrik |

sorry for not answering, ive been busy lately.. i only need to connect the transmitter to the battery and to the sound source which would be either line out or headphone jack which will be simple. The transmitter without the battery is just a flat motherboard smaller than a credit card, it would easily fit if i remove the blue padding and i plan to put some of my own padding inside so nothing moves.
Ill have to somehow have the button pressable so that i can turn the transmitter on and off to save power and to scan for the headphones when i turn the headphones on.. i think thats my biggest problem. The voltage is right.. ive run the transmitter off the iriver's battery already like i said before. I'll hopfully post some pics soon if i get time. @Praz: yep thats the headphones, very good sound quality.. trust me!

Pictures would be great
A suggestion: See if you can route the wires for the power switch and the bluetooth connect button through the line out or somewhere else. That way you dont have to drill holes in the case to fit those switches before you are sure the setup works.

yea i was thinking about that.. id probly use line in though cause i use it the least, or maybe in the remote hole..

Hmm.. strange mod. I would like to see some pics first.
I liked the idea of bluetooth headphones until I realised this: A DAP (Digital Audio Player) has to convert digital data to analog (DAC) that will come out of the line-out and headphone jack. With the bluetooth adapter the conversion must be done again. So that is Digital -> Analog -> Bluetooth -> Digital -> Bluetooth phones -> Analog. From this I assume that there must be at least some conversion errors (or round up of analog signal). I can't say that I would trust such phones. Anyway the mod seems a little to difficult and dangerous to perform. Post some pictures when you are done with this please. P.S: Don't use the line-out unless you want to have distorted sound (at least with normal headphones). Line out is not optimal for phones.

Do NOT run them in series. Remeber that voltage drops in series add. By running them in parallel, you'll keep the same voltage across the player and the bluetooth transmitter. The only thing this does is increase the current draw on the battery. Naturally, this will decrease the time your battery will lasts, but I suspect that the bluetooth transmitter does not have a very high current draw at all, so it shouldn't be much of a problem at all.
This sounds like a fantastic idea. Best of luck. |

Looks like a great mod. Im interested in this one myself. Just ordered myself a new set of these refurbished headphones.
As far as the implementation is concerned I plan to use the next 30 days (till the warranty on the headphones expires) planning how im gona do this. The connection to the battery will have to be done in parallel to preserve voltage. I plan to tap into the lines between the battery and the molex cable. My main concern is how im gona turn the transmitter on and off. Ideally it would be good to have a software function to accomodate this, but even a hardware switch would be adequate. Before drilling holes through the case ill probably consider using the existing hold switch - since i dont use hold anyway. Removing the padding is probably ok, as long as nothing is directly pressing on the hdd and the unit isnt subject to hard shocks. Would be interested from anyone else with suggestions. |

Man props that seems like an awesome mod. If i could only afford those headphones i would be right behind you.
