the internal mod is great, you just need a good soldering iron cuz its a very narrow spot and the usb port to solder

I know this thread is pretty dead, but...
I just did a version using a covered battery holder from Radio Shack and a host cable bought from iriver. The battery holder is a AAA one with a cover and an on/off switch. I tested it out using a Kingston Technology card reader. Works fine with 128MB and 1GB SanDisk cards. Doesn't work with the 16MB canon card that came with my camera. Instead of cutting into a separate extension cable I cut into the host cable and attached the negative side of the batteries to the black wire and put a single 1N4001 diode on the positive side, between the batteries and the red wire in the cable. I didn't cut through the wires, just scraped away a spot on the insulation and soldered to it. You have to be careful not to short anything to the braided shield wires. I was able to fit it all in the extra space in the battery holder. After getting everything soldered I cut the side of the battery holder and used epoxy to hold everything in place. I used NiMH batteries, which are a little lower voltage than alkaline, so I'm not sure if the voltage would be a little high with alkaline. With freshly charged batteries the voltage was 5.02 volts at the start. By the time I'd transfered 325MBs, the voltage was down to about 4.8V. |

I think that if the only thing missing on the h3x0 US version is that switch capacitor, then probably the internal mod shouldn't have been soldering the wire from that + sign to the + side of the capacitor just next to the usb otg jack... It was probably just enough to bridge (connect) that switch capacitor!
would we get a more stable current that way - going through the rest of the circuit, just always having the media port 5v on? I'd love if someone could confirm that. |

Internal MOD - No sweat
Heading to Europe next month and i realized that there's no way i would have enough memory cards to last me the trip. That was when i remembered my old H320. I didnt feel like messing with cables so i decided to do the internal mod.
Opened her up and finally got to the side of it that hid the usb port. Its right under the screen - when i opened up the iriver i popped the back off, so i was forced to remove the battery and HD to get to it. I followed this pic http://godzilla.disca.upv.es/~spetit...ooded-h320.jpg to do the mod. I have very little soldering skills but i managed to connect the 5v to the port. Make sure you get a really tiny wire, it looks big on the picture but its not. Another issue i had is that i accidentally disconected the ribbon cable for the LCD. Watch out for it because its a pain to connect it again. Otherwise, brought it home, connected the converter cable (USB mini to USB)i got from iriver a while ago, and tada. It works! If anyone has questions feel free to PM me. |
