I got all of what you see but the battery pack from some noname kit. I got the kit from a store in the us called big lots. I dont know there in other contrys.Ill try and find what the noname kits name realy is if there it one.

Just did my search but cant find ANYTHING about the kit. Do a search for Mini A usb adaptor and you may find what I used. I just happend to get lucky and the kit came with all sorts of things. I dont know why I dont need the jumper with my Mini A but when I use my Mini B I do. To me all my Mini B is good for is chargeing the player sense a Mini A plug will not fit in the Data side.

It really works. My Take....

Hi.

From this thread, especially st5150 and steff32, I built this.

Use your existing cables (I actually purchased a MiniA to A USB cable to connect from my iriver)

All parts are very inexpensive and some simple (though a little fiddly) soldering.

Thanks again to everyone for their ideas.

Creeky

PS. I originally had US firmware 1.02, now 1.27 EU

Wow thats a nice one Creeky but be careful not to bend it. Thats why I like mine. Theres nothing to bend or smash lol. But I some how broke the small cable on mine so i had to use a longer one.

Great work Creeky. I've got a little project along the same line as you on the way myself.... but in the mean time................ .....

you guys should check out this little write up on how to build a USBOTG box that not only enables USBOTG for US H300's, but it also doubles as an external battery pack/charger for the H300...... and you can make it for about$10-15 and a few hours of work:

http://reality.sgi.com/sawson/h320/

Its the first draft of the write up. I'll be cleaning it up a lot, adding a FAQ, ect.

Is a battery pack needed?

I have been tempted to do the on the go mod for a while now, but the battery pack has always looked ugly to me. I have a question is there anyway we could leech power from the iriver? now as far as i know it can't be done from the power socket, but could it be done through the remotes plugin? I figure the remote has to power the lcd back light somehow. I am currently trying to figure out a way to get a voltmeter reading off the pins in there, but i have a few questions before i invest in a cheap remote off ebay to rip apart.

1. Do you think its possible to do?
2. What is the minimum voltage required for the usb cables is it 5v?
3. Any one have a broken remote their willing to sell?

I just looked at a diagram of the remote, it seems to supply 3 volts. Is this enough, or does anyone know if we could step this up with a capaciter or something if need be?.

USBOTG on Asian model

After reading all the instructions in this thread, I am not sure I have the courage to attempt the modification. I am now thinking of trying to buy an Asian or European model of the H340 instead which has this feature built in. Does anyone know where someone in America could buy an Asian model ?

amperage

Quick question to those who designed the nice little cable:

What amperage should the output from the 7805 voltage regulator be? My local electronics component shop has several different 7805 voltage regulators with different amperage ratings. I believe the RadioShack one is 1A, so I can just go with that, but I thought that since I have some options, if there was an optimal amperage other than 1A, then I might be able to get a component that is better suited.

Cheers

I'm in NZ too, and although I have no idea where to get a mini-A to female-a usb cable, I do know how you can get iRiver to ship overseas (via a proxy). I used shopthestates.com to get my H320, and it only cost about NZ$8 extra with their charges. If a company doesn't ship to NZ, just get it sent there and they on-send it to you.

Thumbs up

Hello all - this is my first post.
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...PACK-N&cat=CON
I saw this and was wondering if it can be of any use (I think it can be) to anyone who is in the process of making a battery pack/or USB OTG. Wish I knew more about its potential but I will leave it up to you. Thanks to all for your work on the H 3xx series!
