FINAL!!!!
now I just need a female female plug. BTY, that battery packet isn't for OTG, it's for H320 -.- ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1.2 X 3 = 3.6 <- can that makes OTG run? Or just put in 4 batteries? Can I just get 2 AA battery pcaket? use cells 1.5 X 2 = 3 ![]() |

jon00182- It looks like you just need the $5 media-USB adapter cable from iriver. As for 3 or 4 batteries, I have an idea for you:
For 59cents get this from radio shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...%5Fid=276-1101 or http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...%5Fid=276-1144 ($1.59, maybe get a tad better battery life) ![]() Connect the two diodes together in series, non-striped end connected to the stripped end. Next connect the free non striped ned to the positive (red wire) battery terminal, and connect the free striped end to the red wire in your USB cable. Use 4 batteries. Each Diode drops the voltage by about 0.6 volts. This way with 4 batteries, you'll be at 4.6 volts Last edited by st5150 : March 9th, 2005 at 06:07 PM. |

but I dont think I need iRiver cable, cuz other side of my cable is mini male!
it's 5 ping~ I already change my iriver to 5 ping~ BTY you just use 1 cell to run OTG, that is 1.5v isn't? so...why i need to get that diodes....get a tad better battery life?? maybe I well go buy a 2 AA batteries packets or 4 how about this: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=270-409 and put in 1.2v batteries~ Last edited by jon00182 : March 9th, 2005 at 08:57 PM. |

linford6- We're on the same path here. I was looking for the connectors you linked, but I happened to come across a $2 USB-A extention cable that had everything I needed. If I was going to use this little guy more often, I would definately do what you suggested. As for a single (but I make make it double so I can also use it as a charger/power supply) AA/AAA battery solution, I battery life will be magnatudes better than a 9 volt with a linear regulator. A LM340 connected to a 9V 200mAH NiHM battery will only be ..... oh, 40% efficient and last only ~25 minutes when connected to a USB device that draws the full 500mA USB spec current. My little power supply pictured above is 80-90% efficient, and can last almost 2 hours if connected to a USB device that draws the full 500mA USB spec current using 2000mAH NiHM AA batteries. Realistically however, these little USB thumb drives we use don't draw much current so its really a non issue. I think the major _realistic_ advantage of my singe/double AA/AAA battery design is that it can double as a portable power supply/charger for the H320. Hell, don't shoot me for saying this, but it will make an awesome portable charger for an iPod shuffle as well.... or anything that charges off a USB port.

so you mean your little singe/double charger is twice better than regular charger? That is SO AWESOME..... Can you make a diagram that show everybody how to make that stuff??? also what you need to buy. THANKS!! I LOVE you guys |

jon00182- Just to make it clear, I am making instructions for two _very different_ USBOTG power supplies.
1) Cheap, easy to build 5volt power supply that runs off a 9 volt battery and will let you connect USB drives, etc to your U.S. H320. It should have reasonable battery life and will need to be turned off when not in use. 2) Relatively "expensive" 5volt power supply that is very difficult to build for a beginner. It will run off one or two AA batteries. Using one AA battery, it will let you connect USB drives, etc to your U.S. H320. Using two AA batteries, it will charge your H320, or power it if your H320's internal battery is dead. It should have amazing battery life and won't need to be turned off when not in use if powered by rechargable batteries. I will do write ups for both of the power supplies mentioned above once I get a chance. Give me a few weeks. In the mean time, a member that goes by the name of "Ten" essentially did a write up for power supply #1 mentioned above. Search for his post on the topic if you're in a rush. My model will just be in a slightly different form factor and better documented. Last edited by st5150 : March 9th, 2005 at 09:43 PM. |

Hello,
I have something to ask you... I own a h320 us and would like to use the usb otg I don't want to open it nor buy an expensive hub. I saw ten's guide for making what I was looking for (he did a great job The problem is that I live in France and it's really hard to get the materials (iriveramerica doesn't ship to france) and I live more than 2 hours away from an electronic store which i don't even know if they carry the voltage regulator. Do you think somebody would have time to build me the usb otg cable ?(I'm not in a hurry so if it takes 3 months no problem) I would pay you before hand so you have the money to buy all the pieces and the shipping to france(+ extra). If somebody agrees he would be the nicest person in the world!! (write me a pm) Thanks a lot Etienne

German solution
hallo,
with inspiration from this thread i have made my own, minimalistic solution: i only solderd two Female Usb-A connectors together, and added a small socket for the 5V Plug from my batterie-pack, thats all! ![]() With the schortcut of pin 4+5 in the Media Port i can use the Original cable which comes with every US-H3x0. so i can use the same cable to connect to computer or for USBOTG. ![]() And it works fine with my Sanyo xacti J1, but a little bit slow. greetings from Black Forest, Steffen - Live is Bliss - |

When you use a Batterie pack with 4 NiMH or NiCa, you definitely dont need it. The iriver takes Voltages between 4 an 5,5 easily (perhabs 6V dont hurt him, but i dont have testet it). I live near france, and shipping some small stuff to you is cheap, so perhaps i can help you. Greetings from Kehl, Steffen - Life is Bliss - |

Steff32:
I hate how simple your solution is. So, are you telling me that I wasted $10 on the iRiver USBOTG adapter? I could have just used a female-to-female plug with the included usb cable? AHHH! *Calms down* Perhaps these different methods should be compiled into an FAQ, so that people like me dont just jump for the first post. Not to say that I dont like the hub! |

When i plug my small HD it works great...but when I plug my camera... the screen in H320 just show up "Plug in please wait" and "DEVICE" WON'T show up!! my OLYMPUS D-560 doesn't work....why...??? I saw my camera on this website...they use this camera for DAMO... That camera is same as mine... http://www.misticriver.net/photos/al...deo/USBOTG.wmv |

Ok I've read 30+ pages of posts but haven't found a clear answer to this. If it has been answered I'm truely sorry...here goes.
I want USBOTG functionality but the only thing I would really ever use it for would be a digital camera (for now anyway). Since the digital camera would be self-powered do I need to bother with doing the whole 9v bettery thing, or do I just buy the adapter from iRiver? Thanks and sorry again if this has been answered. |

Do you think the soldered F-F adapter method would still work as well with a less 'beefy' cable than the one supplied with the unit? I'm always carrying around a retractable one, and I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable jamming and external 5v down its neck, but it would be the perfect solution for me.
