Some Jerk Stole my 340

Good Morning: As I was sitting at a Portland Sea Dogs game this past Friday night with my children, someone broke into my car and stole the beloved H34o. I've had it for a while and am out of touch with the current market and technology. As I have a fair amount of Lp's, the recording capabilities are very attractive. Is there anything newer on the market that records? Any suggestions on what I could replace the 340 with?

Appreciate your help.

Dan

If it was me, I'd go to the iRiver store (at the homepage) & pickup one of the H120's they've resurrected from the warehouse. They actually have BETTER sound than than the H340, plus optical in/out. It doesn't have the fancy color display but it's quite readable. I have had a 340 for a couple of years & recently got a 120 myself & was totally amazed. Search around the forums & you'll find plenty of other posts to back up what I'm saying. Plus you'll have a warranty.... Pretty Cool & a Great Price!

The H320 was my first DAP and I loved it. I've since also used a Cowon U3, a Sansa e280, and have an iPod Classic 80GB. Then, I picked up one of the H120s typed about above...and what a difference! It's easily the cleanest sounding player I've had and my favorite by far.

Also, if you need more than 20GBs, the H120 is pretty easily modded and can be fitted with larger memory.

I'm sorry for your loss , it's a shame we have to share the planet with thieving scumbags .
I'd also advise on the H120/h320 from the iriver store , there was mention of a possibility of some new H140/340's but I'm not sure if that is likely to come about or not .

Some good hiding places are ..
1) in a Band Aid box in the glove box (Tampon boxes are great as well , most thieves seem to be blokes and most blokes don't touch tampon boxes).
2)In a white paper bag which is placed at the bottom of a shopping bag with a few empty drink cans and topped off with some crushed (to make them look used) tissues. Nobody is going to put their hand in there !!
3)There is often room to hide objects at the front of the center console/bottom of the dash where the transmission hump meets the firewall.

The h120 uses a different charger than the h320 I have to have two... everything else in the world uses the same h320 adapter (psp, gigabeat, external battery packs, etc) except the h120.

The sound quality i feel is better in the h120. I got it about 2 years after the h320, and i'm surprised in the sound difference

Another thing you might think about (if you're comfortable with it) - is to consider replacing the battery to a Cameron Sino 2200mAh model. It's easy to do (there are threads in this section on how to do it & it's really easy). It will provide you with way over 20 hours of battery life off one charge. If you do that (& the HDD upgrade that BBD mentioned above) - you'll have a FAR Superior player than the one that those #@&!'s stole from you! The batteries can be purchased from LikketySplit Auctions on eBay for $20 (that includes shipping). Best of Luck & Sorry for your misfortune! The only reason I mention this is even though these are "new" players, the batteries are still a few years old in them & eventually they all die - the same thing would have happened to your H340 as well...

Bad luck Exactly the same thing happened to me with my H320 a couple of years ago. Fortunately they were still available then so at least I could replace it.

Ditto on the H120. For the price you can't beat it, and it's about what you would have to pay for a 4g flash player right now.

SQ is awesome, and the plyer itself is very versatile, and when you get right down to it, the only thing lacking IMHO is a color screen, but that's not a biggie if you are only using it for music.

If you don't like it, you'd probably have little trouble selling it.

I've decided to buy one of Jeff's 320s. As all of the kit I have for my dearly departed DAP will not fit the 120, it made sense to go the 320 route.

Update on the 320. I did get one of Jeff's 320's. Unfortunately within the week it burnt a P.C.B. (according to the Iriver folks). Anyway, I have a replacement unit. Here's the deal: my XP will not open it. I plug it in using the USB according to manual instructions. The system will give me the delightful little two tone bell announding the computer recognizes a new device. I go to my computer and see the icon. When I click on it, I am asked for what file I want to open :E . This has never happened before. I am befuddled.
I went into my wife's office and connected it to her XP and it was recognized fine. Unfortunately all of my music is not on her system. Any suggestions?

You could try connecting your player to the pc then go into device manager (control panel >system >hardware >device manager) then double click on disc drives right click on you players drive and select uninstall. Then disconnect your player from the pc and reconnect it. Hope this helps.

My car was broken into a few months ago and the thieves stole my clix (along with shattering my window and grabbing a few other things). The scary thing is that I usually leave my H340 in the car but hadn't that night. After it happened it made me think of what I would do if it had gotten stolen or ever were stolen... I never came up with an answer. I'm still convinced that the H340 w/rockbox is the best DAP there is.

If you wander over to Rockbox you will see that the sound hardware is exactly the same so any difference you are hearing it is something you are bringing with you, not the hardware.

Dang, that sucks. The only mp3 player I've ever owned (and still own) is the h320, and I still love it!

The Cowon iaudio x5 is supposed to be quite good though, its also been rockboxed, and it can record from inline too.

The x5 is a nice player indeed, just not quite up to the H320.

The only thing nicer about it IMHO is the size.

It's close to the size of an H120. The UI's a little weird also.
