Charging problem

Hi, new to the forum. I just bought a iriver h340 from a pawnbrokers shop the other day. this was probably a mistake lol, but I had seen it online earlier and it kind of made an impression, so when i saw it in a shop i just had to have it. It only came with a dodgy power cord, not the original, with multiple settings.

Now, the problem is, whenever i connect the power cord, It says that the usb is connected. It still charges, but i can't use it while its charging because it thinks its is connected to the computer.

If I connected the power cord while it was off, it went to the charging screen. But if i plugged it in while using it, it brought up the usb icon and locked until i d/c the cord. This also happens if I turn it on while charging.

I tried installing rockbox to see if this would fix the problem, it didn't, and if i plug the cord in while off, and don't hold the rec button it goes into usb boot mode.

I did search the forums before I posted, this isn't a constantly connected problem (or at least i don't think it is) as it only occurs when i plug the power in while on, and goes away if i unplug it.

Any help would be appreciated. I only have two weeks to return it in as the shop was a little dodgy, so speedy help would be good

Thanks

Well, what setting is this "dodgy" power cord set to? The output is supposed to be 5V, 2A and center tip positive...

Also have you tried pluggin in the adapter when rockbox is running? If rockbox isn't running and you plug in the adapter, the original firmware starts and takes care of the charging cycle. To make rockbox charge your player, you have to first start rockbox and then plug in the power.

the charger came set as 4v and i left it like that. I experimented a little, I clicked the switch from 3v up to 6v, but no higher as i read stories of burning out players at voltages of 9 and above. At 3v, in rockbox, the power symbol came on but didn't charge. At voltages 4-6 the usb symbol came on. The charger is back at 4v now .

that's the thing, the original firmare doesn't start unless i hold rec, it starts in usb boot mode under rockbox. I have plugged it in while running rockbox and the usb graphic comes on screen.

So what's happening here is a hardware problem (since it happens in both rockbox and OF). It's either your ac/dc adapter or the player itself.

Is there any way for you to get a hold of an original adapter, or maybe you know someone who owns a PlayStation Portable. The PSP charger has the same specs as the original charger for your H340. If you can try it with an original or PSP charger and it still behaves the same, there's something wrong with the player...

thanks for the help, but it turns out it was an always connected problem
probably should have tried the solution before concluding that wasn't the problem. Will I have to keep shorting it everytime I want to charge it, or is it more of a one time only thing?

Also when charging the screws on the sides sometimes feel tingly, is this normal?

Yes.
Well, maybe not normal but not uncommon either.
