well, it was decision time, Ipod, or iRiver, i just snagged a nice used h320 on ebay for 60 or so bucks, we will see if it was a wise investment. but i really was looking forward to getting a player that was very mod-able, if the 80 gig drop in price i can just jump from 20 to 80 guess.

but i do think i made the right decision between an h10 or a h320 snazzy looks aside.

I like the fact that I've had my h320 for almost three years and it still runs great (battery life is starting to get a little on the short side). I like having an extra audio output jack so I can listen with friends, I like having a built-in mic, and also the ability to record from an inline source.

I used to have rockbox, but after I installed a new iriver firmware update, I never got around to putting rockbox back on. Of course, I really did like rockbox, but I find that the iriver firmware works pretty well too.

I love my darling H340 so much that I questioned marrying it. While it may be old(er) and (arguably) overweight and let's face it... in constant need of AC power, it is still my first and favourite.
I love it's capacity, it's perfect features (I use all of them, and wouldn't delete a thing), the little buzzing sound when it turns on, the deep heavy bass, text, it's comforting weight, how it can run on any computer with no required drivers or software and it's originality - back in a time when pictures, radio, colour and videos were unheard of, this baby was already doing it.
I love that I have dropped it, covered it in glitter and smeared sunscreen on it, and it still keeps going! I can't imagine anything (with the exception of iriver re-starting this model and maybe increasing the capacity) ever coming close to the love I have for this thing!

One of the biggest pros about the H300s is they're so modable!

The reason I bought a iRiver was because my mini disc went wrong again, so I did so research & found that IRIVER was a really good make.
I first bought myself a iRiver H120 because it had everthing I needed like: line in recording, good because I'm a bedroom DJ & line in recording is a must for me, second you don't need any programs to put music onto it, just drag & drop, fm radio to listen to at work, long battery life, like 16hrs, full function lcd remote.
I used my iRiver for about a year, but I then ran out of space on the drive & then bought a H340 because I can record from the radio, good for when I like a tune & then I can take it to my local record shop to see if they sell it, the color screen is good too, also the host mini USB is good for connecting my digital camera to my iRiver.
April 2008 this year I ran out of drive space again, but I bought a 80gb drive, so simple to change it, just put it in, format it & away I go.
I think that iRivers are the best players / recorders out there, they have everything I want on the player & they are so roadbust, plus they work even better using Rockbox, giving me more options, lets me play more media formats & other things.
If you own a iPod, then I would recommend you either bin it, or sell it & buy yourself a iRiver, plus the sound quality beats a iPod handsdown!
I'm a iRiver fan for good!

Sound Quality!!

Played through a good home stereo, the iRiver players equal the sound quality of any CD player I've used as an audio 'source.' My audiophile friends will gasp, but I think that the iRiver h300s (using FLAC files) equal even 'high end' digital audio sources.

Frankly, it's a shame that we've become so attached to earbuds and headphones. If more people played their DAP through 'old fashioned' stereo loudspeakers, it might produce an end to MP3 and the LOUSY sound mixes the recording industry creates to optimize compressed music.

Try it! Rip a CD and create two files of ONE song (preferably something with deep bass AND symbals) -- an MP3 at any bit rate you like and a Lossless file like FLAC. Put both files on your iRiver h300 and play them back and forth -- NOT through computer speakers, but through 'old fashioned' stereo speakers. Even on a modest stereo system, the difference will be obvious.

What do I like about H300's? The ability to play CD quality 'lossless' music files.
