Which CF card are you using, and how did you do it?

A mod I have been thinking about for a while is adapting a mini USB into the back of the "battery extender". This holds four AA batteries and plugs into the charge jack for those unfamiliar. Since there is no play-while-charge through the USB, using the battery extender usb'd into a usb phone charger or pc would allow infinite running.

nsx: A RiDATA Lightning 233x 32GB. All it needed was a $5 adaptor and RockBox with a custom RockBox which can be downloaded from their CF Mod Guide page. The iriver firmware still boots, but can't see the CF card. But I never use that, anyway.

I got the adapter today, and it works perfectly. Currently using a Sandisk Ultra 1GB CF card in FAT32 format.

Will look at getting the 32GB card soon. I couldn't be happier.

Flash card to replace HD? what are the future plans for flash card tech.. will it reach past 32 mb?

this sounds like a really cool way of updating the h320 which i really dig BTW. but im wondering about the weight. with just the card and adapter it seems like the player will be very feather weight. one thing i like about the h3XX series is the heft of the player. un like the ipod and the like you really feel like you have a solid piece of equipment.. so any ideas of what to use to make the player matain its nice heft. just wondering.

The 320 definitely does feel a bit lighter after the battery swap. But hey, nothing's perfect. Losing weight would be the price you pay for having one of the best sounding 32GB Flash players ever.

Others have already put 32GB cards into their H320s with the same adapter. I'm just trailing using my 1GB card to make sure it works.

Go to the rockbox forum. There's a huge thread about CF swaps.

You can feel that it's a bit lighter, but it still feels very solid. To me, at least.

64GB CF cards are currently on the drawing board, and will probably be out within the year. The CF specification goes up to 137GB, so that's as big as we can expect to see in the near future.

Of course, in a few of years, CF cards will probably hit that ceiling, and I'd expect to see the specs revised to allow for larger cards. Which means that the hard limit is going to come from RockBox's reliance on the FAT32 filesystem, which I don't see changing, ever.

FAT32 allows for a maximum volume of 8 terabytes, which is almost certainly more than we'll ever see in a CF card. But maybe the next big thing will use some variety of science fiction (possibly involving the word "quantum") to store that much data is a similar form factor.

Maybe I would re-rip my CD collection to FLAC or APE, if that happened. But by then, someone will probably have managed to release a DAP that's better than the H300 series...

Well, you have a good half-inch of empty space left over, so you could get a small block of metal to sit in there, if you want to up the weight. Probably best to wrap it in electrical tape, or some such, so it can't short anything on the board...

Just wondering, does anyone know of a good unicode rockbox theme besides unicatcher?

Also, does rockbox play back WMA?

I think the unicode support is just a matter of using a unicode font. Choose the theme of your liking, and then "play" /.rockbox/fonts/unifont.fnt. It's a very broad font, so you might have to play with the layout a bit to make it look neat, but you can, in theory, use pretty much any theme you want.

Yes, Rockbox plays WMA (along with everything else), so long as it's not DRM'd or using special, proprietary versions.

Yeah that's the problem. All the good looking themes mess up their layout once I select unicode font.

how do I adjust the layout? I have absolutely no idea how to do WPSs

This will tell you everything you need to know, but it's not terribly easy to follow. Use that as a reference, and take a WPS that you like, and see if you can figure it out.

If you need any specific help, I have some experience of editing WPS's, so feel free to ask.

Sadly my h320 just died, too many drops down the stairs. But when it worked, I changed the battery, ROCKBOXed and inskinned. What's the deal with CF? Because I'd love to regenerate my baby.

You just order the adapter off ebay, grab yourself a CF card and voila.

Just make sure you're running the patched rockbox CF bootloader.

Is this the correct replacement for the H320 (ie no molex polarity swap)?

Extended 2200Mah Battery iRiver H140 H320 H340 FREE S/H - eBay Other MP3 Players, MP3 Batteries, MP3 Accessories, Consumer Electronics. (end time 15-Jun-08 03:08:49 AEST)

Might as well swap in a new battery when I swap in the 32GB CF card.

You are correct. Polarity is good as is.

I just bought the same battery for my H132CF.. did the CF card upgrade at the same time. Charging it right now.
