Exclamation Alternative Chargers for the H300's

Please post the alternative chargers that are guaranteed to work with the H300 series.
You can also post car chargers. links and bold them.

You can purchase genuine iRiver Accessories here.

US:

H300 Series Power Supply Specification

  • DC power plug: 4mm (or longer) x 1.7mm
  • polarity: -(+ <<<< link. You must get this correct!
  • voltage: 5v max
  • amps: 2 amp max
Which is all stated in the manual

It's worth noting here that another H300 has had the 'Charging Circuit' 'Burnt out' due to a multi-voltage adapter with polarity switching, set to a voltage of 9v

The irony eh...?
I've now fried my H340 while away on holiday, used my faithful multi voltage/polarity adapter.
Had just woken up... pluged the adapter into the car power outlet and....
nothing.. nowt, zip, squat.. dead!

That was with the voltage set to 1.5v / 2A
I'm sure the polarity was correct... bah! probably not.

Don't use these multi adapters people.. it really is too easy to make a mistake

We need to know the mains power supply of different countries.

UK: 230/240 volts, AC 50Hz (Hz = hertz/frequency)

This guide is to try and ensure that nobody else 'burns out' the charging circuit of their iRiver H300 series.

It is also useful for people travelling abroad.

We believe that the original charger that was included with your H300, is the only charger that should be used to charge the H300.
However.. There will be occasions where people will want/need to use a different charger.

Disclaimer: I have only started this thread as a guide. The points made above, should ensure that you don't inadvertently make the mistake of 'burning out' the charging circuit of your iRiver H300 series by using a different charger. I take no responsibility if you do use a different charger... You do this at your own risk!

Not every person that owns a H300 will see this!

Take care when using Alternative Chargers.

Always Check The Chargers Specification

(it is very easy to 'burn out' the charging circuit).

'Haku' Has kindely started an identical thread and edited the specs for those with H100's.
Alternative Chargers for the H100's
Many Thanks for that Haku.

Please don't spam up the thread with nonsense, But please add your recommendations.
Thanx LD

The Sony PSP charger is known to have the same specs and jack size as the iriver charger.

I think that it would be worthwhile for someone to do a comprehensive FAQ on batteries and charging, combining the information that is currently scattered around in different posts and FAQs, as well as on batteryuniversity.co m.

LD, just FYI, the green and yellow colors in your posts are not easily viewed by those of us using the old theme.

I'm in NL, mains is same as UK.
It works fine with my Creative Muvo2 charger (5V, 1,5A)
Also my Casio Exilim Z500 charger hasn't seemed to have done any damage (5.3V, 650mA)

Hmm, his signature doesn't say anything about that now, and none of his posts in this thread say anything about using a PSP charger. Golf7, if you read this, I invite you to clarify.

PSP Charger from AxShop.com - Link to Item

I have had it about 2 weeks now - I have been using it in my car with a USB/Cig Adapter that I had - Ax Shop has one of these for sale as well.

Plus I have used this on my laptop with out a problem as well.

I do Computer Services and have some great distances to drive and use this alot.

Plus I use the Hard Drive to carry my utilities and items around So I need to make sure it is always charged.

I have two after market chargers that work fine, and have done so for over one year with no ill effects...

Car Charger

digitor M9887

Input : DC 12V to 24V

Output : 4.5V @ 700mA

AC Adaptor

digitor

Model : 12F09-4.5

Input : 100 - 240V - 50 / 60 Hz 180 mA

Output : 4.5V DC @ 1.2 A Max

Both of these have removable tips to allow the polarity to be changed, I have glued them both in the correct polarity to prevent accidents.

Neither can be switched to different output. This also prevents accidents.

Aight guys, the PSP charger was a CAUSE of my battery dying.

After reading alot about why batterys die, if you dont use the official charger it helps to kill your battery. Also if you leave the charger plugged in, even when its 100% charged, that kills your battery. Also harsh temp changes will kill your battery, ie: leaving it in your car all day.

So i cant clarify that it was the PSP charger that killed my battery because ive done a combination of the above, and they all contibuted to the demise of my battery. All i can say is that ill be using the official charger from now on since i got the ipod battery installed.

There is a lot of indications that leaving it on charge is bad.

If you have done that, then this seems a bit harsh...

Since I got my PSP (about 3 months ago) I've only been using its charger to charge my iRiver. Works perfectly and I still have the same battery life as I did when I used the iRiver charger.

May I ask a dumb question? Did you lose your original charger for your DAP?

I tried using a home made battery pack with replaceable tips for both my palm mpilot and my h300....I had to RMA both of em cuz they started malfunctioning.

It is only Iriver branded chargers for me thank you very much! Now that I have rockbox, I want this player to last a little.

I agree.. This is just a guide for people who need to know the spec's.
If people want/need to use a different charger.. they will, I'd rather they bought/used one that is known to work...

This is a Multi Voltage adapter (not a charger - but can be used as a charger), it also has Polarity Switching.
I have used this product set to 4.5v with no problems so far.

Car adapters/chargers are also more likely to surge.

Always Check The Specification.

LD peace out.
I have a similarly specd car adaptor. However mine APPEARS to charge the player, and I thought it was actually charging till I did a big road trip.
After a 12 hour car trip the H320's battery was just as (un)charged as it was when I started the trip. All it seems to do is stop the battery from draining any further.

Here's mine:
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...=&SUBCATID=665

I was temped to try the 6Volt setting. But was too scared. Since the iRiver charger actually puts out 5.4V (according to my measurements) 6 would be closer. IIRC the charging chip takes an input of 4.5 - 6.5V but I still wouldn't risk it. A little surge and.. caput?

This may be useful for anyone's who has a charger related death:

Brave intrepid souls can make 5 volt regulators and use ANY DC source from 9-24 Volts (with adequate heat sinking).
Now where are my jumper leads...
