Done It! IONITY LiP385583 runs in H300 Series

Hello Everybody,

I've replaced the original battery from an H320 with the IONITY LiP385585 1900/2000mAh.

It fits into the case with no 1/10 mm air between backcase an battery.
3.8mm is enough. No more space left inside the case.

It is very hard to change the battery. The iHP/100 series is much more easier to handle in service cases.

And here it is. The result of the first nonstop runtime measurement.

The "Setup":

Player: iriver H320 European Version
Firmware: v1.27K (koreanische Version)
Lithium Polymer Battery: IONITY LiP385585, 1.900/2.000mAh(*)
Audio Files: MP3, 128kbps, CBR,
Volume: Level 10
Equalizer: Normal (no sound manipulation)
Remote Control: Non
Earphones: Sony MDR-EX71

(*) The battery was already charged/discharged twice before this test.

Automatic shut OFF after: 25 hrs. 45 min.

Here are the status positions of the battery indicator during the test period:

03.02.2005, 19:00 (Start of test)
Bar: IIII

04.02.05, 08:00
Bar: III

04.02.05, 11:00
Bar: II

04.02.05, 16:00
Bar: I

04.02.05, 19:30
Bar: non

04.02.05, 20:30
Bar: Indicator frame is blinking

04.02.05, 20:45
Bar: Player OFF

Time to recharge the player with the IONITY LiP385585 by using the original iriver power supply is:
4 hrs. 40 min.

Cheers

Juergen

I would be interested to see the time for playback if its used on vol = 20. Would give a good indication to the actual comparison so people can make their minds up on this as the standard seems to be at 20 rather than 10.

Hey Banzai good work! A few questions;

Is the LiP385585 1900/2000mAh model the highest mAh IONITY that will fit? are there any plans for a higher one of the same size in the future?

You mentioned that it was alot harder to replace the H320 battery compared to the H100, is this because it is fiddely or doesnt the battery fit as well as the original? Edit: read your post again, you mentioned the air gap is used up, did this pose a problem re-assembeling the player?

Did you do a test with the same specs on the original battery? (I will do it if you havent)

Where did you get your IONITY from? I thought the company was in liquidation?

Finaly, is your charge time from a flat battery? or did you charge it from when the player first shut down? I have heared you can get another 10 - 30 mins out of your batery if you keep switching it on after it shuts off.

thanks for this, as far as I know you are the first to change a H300 series battery

At this moment the LiP385585 is the IONITYs only battery with 1900/2000mAh

In the H300 series you have to remove more parts than inside the H100 series. The front and rear panels are fixed with four clips each and it's hard to remove the front panel at the last steps.

The 3.8mm are more than enough. You can close the case safely but there is not an inch free space left between rear panel and battery. If you want to use an "thicker" battery (> 3.8mm) you have to remove the blue rubber mat between battery and hard disk.

No I didn't run the test with the original battery.

I've got very good connections to the management, insolvency practitioner and distributor. So I've got enough batteries in stock and I can get more if I need. For example when there will be an omnibus order from the US.

I've recharged the battery from flat (display: low Bat, player: off). I know that you can try to start the player again for about 10-30 mins after a couple of minutes.

1) I sell these batteries
2) Have a look at www.dapstore.com
3) It's a bit harder as the H100 series
4) Yes. And the english version will be the first one. Pictures are ready
(online step-by-step slides will be ready within 2 days)
5) Original battery is an SKC LPCS355385 (3,5mm thick, 53mm width, 85 mm length) with an capacity between 1400 to 1500 mAh.

Excellent, good to know it works with the H300 series. Getting 24+ hours would be sweet.

One concern - Juergen you say there is no room left in the player between back panel and the new battery. Would that create an issue with heat?

If the original battery left an air gap would that be there to help keep the battery cooler than if there is no gap.

I've read that heat from long recharges is what kills batteries of this type, so that's why I'm asking.

Hi Sidane,

during the charging time the battery keeps cool. So there is no heat produced by the battery when you charge it.

AND! An air gap between the cpu and the cooler is very bad. Air is an bad heat conductor. So you have to use heat-conductive paste.

But don't worry. As I said. The battery didn't produce heat during the discharging and charging procedure. Only the harddisk and "electronics" inside the player getting warm during work.

Cheers

Juergen

i initially was disappointed with my h320's performance with the ionity LiP385585 ... turns out it was due to the 1.25k bug. i've added a few hours with 1.27k on average. =]

Awesome work, the longer the battery life the better. Im about to head off on my OE so a longer battery life would be sweet when sitting trains for hours and hours through Asia.

thanks for those!!! great pics, easy to follow.

is it possible to take the front panel off to clean the inside of the screen without opening the back? or do you have to take the bit off you are undoing in pic 15 down the left column, taken out in pic 15 in the right column?

a
