how do you figure only 40 more minutes at vol 20? no test was done so are you just assuming? modern says he pulled 18+ hours which seems a little unusual but anyways thats fine. with the upgraded battery how could you deduce that he would only get 40 more minutes?

Hey Banzai,
My wife just plugged in her portable dvd player car charger into the iriver h320 and I believe she fried it. Will a new battery from your site solve the problem, and what shipping should I use for USA? Thanks
DS

Does the H320 use a Lithium Polymer battery or a Lithium-ion polymer battery. They sound the same but theyre fairly different. Can someone thats opened the player tell me what it says on the battery pack?

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-5.htm - Talks about lithium ion, lithuim-ion polymer, and lithuim polymer batteries.

EDIT: Found out, its a lithium-ion polymer

Buckaroo Banzai, I'd be interested in getting a new battery, however, can you source any 60gb drives? I've found several places in Germany that sell them (pretty much the only country) here: http://preisvergleich.wirtschaftsbla...d/a145974.html . Can you see about getting them in stock, or if these palces have them in stock, maybe we could work out something for me to get one .

*I'd happily be the first to butcher their H340 with a 60gb drive, if only I could find one.

Hello,

here it is. The result of the second nonstop runtime measurement with a more realistic setup.

The "Setup":

Player: iriver H320 European Version
Firmware: v1.28K (newest korean version, 19.04.2005)
Lithium Polymer Battery: IONITY LiP385585, 1.900/2.000mAh(*)
Audio Files: MP3, 192kbps, CBR
Volume: Level 20
Equalizer: Normal (no sound manipulation)
Remote Control: Non
Earphones: Sony MDR-EX71

(*) The battery was already charged/discharged more then 10 times before this test.

Automatic shut OFF after exactly: 23 hrs. 00 min.

I've used the backlight for status control aprox. 25 times (5 sec. each time)

But one bad information.
The battery is out of stock! IONITY got a new investor but there is no date of restart the production.

One little positive hint at this moment is, that the new Toshiba 30GB and 60GB hard disk drives are in stock.

bye
Juergen

As great as that sounds, having just spent all my money on other things makes me feel so soo sad.

The 60GB drives are double platter, and will only fit in the H340s. The 30GB drives are single platter, and will fit in the H320s.

This is a great thread and fantastic idea. I'm wondering for comparison purposes what the stats are on a stock battery? Also, what is the expected lifetime of the stock battery? I bought my H320 with the firm expectation of it lasting me the next 3 or 4 years... I use it a lot as I use it for an hour at least in the gym every other day, and for an hour or so driving every other day.
Are there any other makes of battery which are suitable?
Can you get replacement stock batteries from Iriver? I seem to remember reading somewhere that After the Ipod debacle Iriver said they would replace dead batteries for free...
How difficult is it do the replacement? Is it feasible for a non-electrician like me to do it wih relatively low risk?
And finally- do you use the same charger?

Thanks

Bump for the questions above.....

Today I got the package I've been waiting for!

Newer Technology NuPower 'Super High-Capacity' 2100mAh that is used for the iPods. I'm going to put it into my US H340 this weekend. I just finished swithcing the pin positions on it. I'll post an update on here later this weekend with the results. It's a bigger battery than the ionity based on the mAh rating. I wonder how long it lasts.....

Upgrade complete! The battery is a pain to get in but it does fit. I've powered it on and it plays. It's currently charging. I will discharge it tomorrow and charge it again in order to test the run time! I'll keep you posted. 2100 mAh!!!

Arrow

I remember the thread that you're talking about.

It will work yes, but it is VERY tight, and the rubber padding has to be removed, which is probably not a great idea.

Yep, that's right, It will fit, but you won't have padding, and your HDD is more likely to break...

ok now i get what you were saying. so those 60gb hd's are available? i may consider one. anyone think you could squeeze the larger battery and 60gb hd in an h320? that would be the ultimate.

That would be the ultimate!

But I doubt its possible............

The H340 could be done but the H320........... I'd stick with what you got.
