Problems with CF mod

Hello all. As near as I can tell, I've successfully upgraded my ihp 120 to use a 32GB AData Compactflash card. I'm also running the latest rockbox build(I've been upgrading it rather religiously). However , I've run into a few problems. The biggest one is that every time I disconnect my USB connection from my computer, I've had to use the reset button to get the iriver going again. While this isn't the end of world by any means, it's a pretty big inconvenience. Is there a work-around for this problem?

The other problems have been fairly minor - little hangups as I navigate rockbox, and can be dealt with by using a little patience.

Also, I want to give a big thanks to a lot of the members here. I've been lurking for a while, and a lot of the guides have been very helpful.

I'm using h120 bootloader v7 pre4 as per the CFmod wiki at the rockbox site. I've been using the current rockbox builds as well. If it makes any difference, I'm running Rockbox from the RAM, but I've tried running it from the ROM, and it still needs a reset when it's disconnected from USB.

With CF if you set it to boot from disk , does it still hang ?.
Did it hang with when your Hard Disk was installed ?.
If it hangs with your original HDD my guess is that you have a USB issue.

If it only hangs when you have a flash Card installed it could be a issue with bootloader and CF card, some CF cards do not exactly comply to HDD software specifications. I would suggest posting the problem in Rocboxs ' H1xx CF mod' forum to get one of the developers to assist you, and also so that this CF cards quirks can be added to the CF quirks list at rockbox.

To help resolve your navigation issues load rockbox's default settings during boot, the key sequence for this I think is press the record key and ON keys simultaneously during startup.

It actually won't boot from the disk. When I make that selection, it just hangs on "executing command." It will only load from the RAM or ROM.

No, it worked flawlessly with the original hard disk.

Thank you for this advice. I'll give it a shot.

When it needs a reset at disconnect, is that because it still thinks the USB is connected?
Could it be you damaged the connection between main board and daughter board (which hosts USB and IDE) ?

We shall continue this on the RB forum as soon as you start your thread there

No. The screen goes blank, but it doesn't boot into anything, nor do any buttons respond.

I don't believe so. I just put the stock harddisk back in to see if I could eliminate this possibility. When I disconnect from USB with the original HD in, the iriver functions as it should and switches back to rockbox without any issues. To me, this would indicate a problem with the software, the compactflash adapter, or the compactflash card. Or a mixture of either of those three.

Do you have your jumper on? Try that. It will probably fix your problem.

The CF mod works in the H120 even if you use a high capacity replacement battery right? I noticed that my case fit much more snug with my new battery and am wondering if a CF adapter+Card would be too thick.

You will need to bend the jumper, but that's about it...
