Question MK4007GAL Hard Drive

I've noticed that no one seems to be able to find the MK4007GAL 40 Gb hard drive needed to upgrade H110 and H120 DAPs.

I've found one at Memory4Less

I have sent them an email asking if they really have them, and have not received an answer yet.

Does anyone have a better source (cheaper?). Has anyone dealt with Memory4Less? Any comments?

The freight charges for an international buyer from these people is a real killer. They want nearly $60 to send one of these.

I can get them here in Japan. I have one in my H320 right now.

http://kakaku.com/item/05361010224/

Looks like the price has dropped significantly- to 11,878 yen = about $100

I had looked at that page from a google search I did. Unfortunately I can't speak (or read) Japanese, and I couldn't read enough of that page to be able to buy one.

I bought from the vendor that's first on the list, you just get the HDD itself. I just plugged it in to the connector inside the H320 with no probs. I have some (shoddy) pics if interested.

The Toshiba site says they don't have the zif connector, the wiki here says they don't have the zif connector, all the photos I have seen show them without the zif connector.

I'd say they don't have a zif connector.

No, I'm GoingNow.

It doesn't look good. I sent them an email 25 hours ago and so far I have had less than one reply. If they don't answer me it is going to be hard to buy from them - if they can't answer an email message where I just want to know something simple like "Do you have them in stock?" what are they going to do when I ask a hard question?

You know the ones like "Have you sent my order yet?" "It has not arrived, where did you send it?" "It was dead on arrival, I want to return it."

I'm GoingNow.

No. GAL = single platter. Read the Hard Drive Selection FAQ I created for more info (link in my signature).

I wonder if they would ship to a US address and how much if they would? Right now I wish I knew someone who reads Japanese who could go through this site with me. I tried using babelfish to translate it, but it is too tedious doing that.

Plus there are parts that are not translated as they are Japanese in a picture. Parts of it like that seem to be when you get to the ordering part. I would need a real translator before I spent any money on something like that.

On another note, it is now 36 hours since I sent an email to sales at memory4Less (the only US based seller I can find on Google). They still have not answered me, which means they are not likely getting any of my money.

Memory4Less have now changed the web page that advertises these. They no longer show a price, instead it says "Your Price: Call" or there is a link to a Request Quote page. I attempted to fill in the Request Quote page, but when I hit submit it went to a "Page not found" error.

Is anyone reading this who lives in the United States prepared to ring their 1-800 number and ask for a quote and if they really do have them in stock?

I'm fluent in Japanese and have bought from these guys before.

I think it could be possible for me to help some of you guys get a hold of some of these drives, if it's worth my effort.

I'd be willing to work with Mistic River if there is any interest out there.

nice try, actually it's ありがとう。

the reason these guys are so cheap is they buy in bulk (I think). I got my hdd in a recycled box with only the hdd in a LOT of protective packaging. that's it. no extra goodies. but it's cheap and my hdd plugged right in no probs.

どう致しまして。

Google "English to Japanese BETA" got it wrong, not me. I did learn how to say "Thank you" to my Japanese Sensi at the dojo about 15 years ago, but how to spell it or write it is beyond me. I have forgotten all the kata as well.

I would not mind the box it came in, nor would I mind if it was an OEM model - the big killer for me is that I am in Australia. Freight for the hard drive from the American seller who will not answer my email messages would be about USD$60, which adds 50%. As well, there is the danger that if it comes UPS they will automatically do the customs paperwork and charge me import duty and GST and potentially add another 50% on top of the price (including the freight). If you don't pay then the item is returned (with return freight to the sender)

The soup nazi has nothing on these people - No hard drive for you!

shipping from Tokyo should not be expensive - but I'd expect a little something for me to make it worth my time and charging it to my credit card to make the purchase. shoot me an e-mail.
