New battery, but still poor battery life
My stock battery was down to approximately 3 hours of playing time, so I swapped it with a Lenmar 1450 battery. Since that battery is close in specs to the stock battery, I figured I would get close to what I got when my H120 was new (~7 hours?). But after a full charge, I am still only getting 3 hours on the new battery. Is the battery a dud? Or is my player fried?

Yep. Lithium Polymer batteries need to be cycled just a few times to get their full potential out. You should see improved performance in a week or so.

Unless you're playing wav's, 3 hours is very poor even for a standard 1300mah internal battery, I suspect something is wrong with the mainboard.

Sad to say, yes, if you can cope with the limited battery time then you'll be ok but if it really bugs you then a replacement mainboard (or player) is needed.
From what I've seen & bought of broken H1xx players on eBay, whole units often sell for less than the sum of their parts, ie if the seller were able to fully test the harddrive and sell it separately they could get up to £50 just for a 20gb 1.8", and another £20 just for the remote.
