Thumbs up H1xx Painting How to ...

This is a small HowTo dismount an H1xx player (in order to paint it or to chage either battery pack or HDD)

(click on a picture to enlarge it)

There are 10 little Torx-5 screw that you need to unscrew in order to open the iHP

1 in each corner

and 1 in the middle of each side

as soon as you unscrew the 4 screw from a side, you can withdraw the little cap
(you can also see a Facom Torx-5 screwdriver)

when the 8 ends screw are unscrewed, you can withdraw both caps, and then disunite the player : one side with electronics (screwed), and the other with the battery pack (glued)

You can withdraw the HDD
to do that, you just have to raise a little the 'upper end' of the HDD, and then you can unclipse it from its pins (caution : do not inflict it a torsion movment)
on voit en bas a droite une protection en plastique mou pour le HDD

to withdraw the electronic plate, 6 screws (blue circled)

and then, all is out of the player !!! (don't forget to unscrew the 2 little screw on each side, because the mic is glued on one side, and then, can't be moved away from the electronic card)

on the upper left, the screen plate ... sorry, all the picture about the 'ungluing' was blur
you should use your fingers to draw aside the screen plate from the front plate.
you must begin by the upper side of the screen, and 'cut the glue' with a knife (i use a little screwdriver as there is no need to really cut ...)
it took a long time, but if you hurry, the screen plate with break (i made a little scratch on it by trying to be faster ...)

Thumbs up

this is the front plate with out the screen

in order to paint, you need to protect the foam withe painter scotch tape
i withdraw le button circling, but if you cover it with tape, there is no problem ...

before the painting, you sure need to sandpaper all the player, even if the iRiver logo ... then you should clean it with alcohol to degrease it
and then, to paint ... several times (i did it 7 times), and to sandpaper it each time

to rebuild the player is the same as withdrawing it

i had a few difficulties to find where was this special block ...

job's done !!!

In a lot of ways. Your not supposed to open your dap at all. But that isn't noticeable. But, I'm not too sure the warranty says you can't paint it! Still, if you ever needed to send it back then you'd be screwed more than likely.

Hello GaINDAIF, great job. I'm new in this forum and I would like to ask you about the paint that you used, because I tried to paint my H100 and after I painted it I noticed that I bought the wrong paint.
So please help me here...

thank you....

Hi Gandalf i didn't noticed first that we can dismount screen protector too... Is it hard to make?

Finaly I should be interested in making a champaign iHP140 (160 maybe) if i can use my new unscratched H140screen protector instead of the scratched one of my formerly H120 (that I've offered to my sister)...

Let me know...

Finally complete , I could not get a hold of a Torx 5 screwdriver (very hard to come across in Ireland ) so I just masked it up and hoped for the best , sadly some seeped thru the tape and got the shiny silver but I scraped most of it off and it looks uite alright, its not completly finished yet as I want to put that material you see on the back of football jersey's the one that has their name , im gonna be that on the back saying iRiver H120 and something else I have in mind , I dont have a Dig camera but I think my mate does so when finished I will post pic's , BTW its Cherry Red like the one thats at the top of this page...
