H10 - 20gb Audio Line Out

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone knows if there may be a difference in sound quality from what would be the data cable line-out connections used if one has a cradle dock vs. the signal quality of the head phone jack at the top of the unit. I don't have a dock to compare the two with or I would.

The sound from the unit is plenty good through head phones, but when plugged into a good stereo, there is room for improvement so I would look into making a "Line-Out" connector using an extra H10 data cable if there is better sound available.

I read somewhere, but I can't find it again, about the line-out signal not being influenced by any tone controls of volume which makes me think it may be of better audio quality than the head phone signal.

Also, and this may be the wrong place, but the head phone jack seems to reside along with the mic and the remote control jack on a separate little sub-board inside the H10. Does this maybe imply that the "output" (?) amp is also on this board, if anyone may know?

Thanks

If you're looking for sound quality from a line out source, I would research one of the iHP-120's they're selling on the iRiver store (top of page). You have both analog & digital options already built in & the sound quality is far superior (I know because I have both models sitting here in front of me). There isn't any modification you could make to an H10 to make it compare to the iHP series! The docking stations I've seen on eBay recently have been going for alot of $$$ as well!

As far as the output amp for the H10, my guess is that it's not on that board given it's size & the fact that it has a flat ribbon cable connecting it to the mainboard, but that's just a guess!
