Getting Ubuntu to work with 5GB H10

Hey guys just got my H10 last night from a Craigslist trade and am running Ubuntu 7.10. I believe the firmware is 2.10, havent found a way to update using ububtu yet and tried on my roomates busted windows laptop but his usb ports arent working

SO here is my current standing problem, I can enter emergency mode and open it as mounted device. I can copy music from my home folder to the Music Folder on the H10 but the only way I can see the music in the H10 is through the Browse feature. I can see and play all the music in the folder. Under Extras i did the Database Refresh, how can I get the music to show up properly?

If I convert it to UMS what does that mean? That I wont have to hold the o when starting it? I rummaged around and got EasyH10 installed last night. pretty happy right now just as is but I am sure I can get this to be better. Tried to get it to work with Amarok but says something like can not detect IFP, something like that, gonna read up on the stuff in your Sig, thanks

yeah, UMS means you would it have to hold the o down. also I think but not sure that your music would automatically go to the music folder without having to use EasyH10. i have no experience whatsoever with Linux or Amarok, so I can't help you there. However reading the Amarok wikipedia article i am going to assume you have to convert to UMS before using it. unless you have DRM files there is really no reason not to switch to UMS (or try Rockbox for that matter, but that's a different forum)

I'm using EasyH10 for my Kubuntu laptop, it seems to do a fine job for my purposes. My only problem was getting the computer to identify it as anything other than a camera at first. I went in and got it to acknowledge MTP devices. Thus letting me access my music in a play mode.

DO NOT USE AMAROK WITH ANY PLAYER. It wiped my T30 completely and can no longer identify the T30, though it still works fine with my Windows laptop. Ubuntu is superior, but you must find the right programs.
