H10 usb charging and Playing at the same time
Question: I bought a fm thing to play my h10 through the car stereo, it came with the usb port for charging. However, when you plug in the usb cable, it automatically goes to usb mode and wont play music.
Is this the only way it works, or is there a setting or upgrade to be able to play music and usb charge at the same time? I took back the fm ,whatever you call it, cause it sucked, but I was looking at car chargers on ebay and see a lot that are "usb charging" off the cigarette lighter. |

not car, but I have three charging methods
1) straightforward...AC/DC (5v 2amp) converter into OEM iriver USB cable (power input)
I can play my H10 20G while charging using this method. 2) Special cable (that I received to power a USB hub) for high-current applications (this fits directly into the OEM iriver USB cable power input). One side fits into female power plug of the OEM iriver and the other side is a USB (A) standard input into a computer. This is slow charge as the USB port from a computer does not provide that much current. However, (and I think this relates to the car to USB adapters specific for the H10) I can play my H10 20G while charging. So if the car charger is supplying 5 Volts, I don't see why this would not work. I can play my H10 20G while charging using this method. I believe this is supplying .5A max (1/4 of what the wall charger provides). 3) which is basically method 2 (using my special USB to 5V power plug that fits in the OEM iriver USB cable) plus using the iriver USB connector into a 2nd USB connector on my computer (which doubles the current to 1A, I think). I think it does based on usb (only) portable hard-drives that do not need an extra power source, but they use 2 usb ports...here is a snipet of USB spec: snip: For portable devices where external power is not available, but not more than 1 A is required at 5 V, devices may have connectors to allow the use of two USB cables, doubling available power but reducing the number of USB ports available to other devices. for further reading: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.p...a44edc55633e7c http://groups.google.com/group/rec.p...a44edc55633e7c I believe this is supplying 1A max (1/2 of what the wall charger provides). I cannot play my H10 20G while charging using this method, because if I power it on it goes into USB connection mode. I think the ones on ebay that are cigarette lighter plugs/usb must supply 5Volts, I could use my USB (male A type) to power plug into the OEM iriver connector (power split) and I would bet money that would work.
