H10 20Gb - UMS trick not working
Hi all, think the tiltle says it all...had my H10 for about a year now and so far has been absolutely faultless, thought I was one of the lucky ones! However today tried to boot into UMS mode using the UMS trick and can't get the Emergency Connection. I haven't used the H10 for a while, but don't see why this should make a difference. Have tested all the buttons and the reset switch and they are working OK. Battery is fully charged. Have tried using the trick with the H10 connected and disconnected to my PC, and nothing works
My H10 is the EU version with V2.51 firmware, hope somebody can help! |

Sorry, thought original e-mail was clear enough, so here goes...
1. Do UMS trick: Press reset switch with pin/paper clip > press power button + 'O' button. Result:boots straight into normal operation, ie no 'Emergency Connection'. Done this a thousand times before with success so I know process works normally. 2. Have heard that the 'O' button can misbehave so have checked by booting into normal operation and testing by choosing Music/Artist/Track. Result: button operated normally 3. Tested Reset switch by booting normally and pressing reset switch with a paper clip. Result: powered off, switch working OK. 4. Thought maybe it is a USB/power thing and should be easy enough to test so connected the H10 to its charger and retested 1. above. Result:boots straight into normal operation, ie no 'Emergency Connection' Can't think of anything else except redo the firmware, but obviously don't want to do that because I'll lose all my files. Everything is backed up but would rather explore if there are easier options first Hope this helps, any ideas? |

A couple of things, I don't think the UMS trick will work UNLESS you are connected to a USB port. So, are you sure the USB port is still functional, have you tried the USB port with another device? Second, and this may be OBVIOUS but..., is the lock button on by any chance? Gary |

I'm getting the same problem when trying to connect a friends h10/5gb mtp. i've tried changing usb ports and pressing different buttons while starting up even, but I still can't get into ums!!
*edit* hmm... it is a UMS one! duhhhhh, i'm so stupid! My cousin tried updating it in the first place and stuffed it up, cause he thought it was mtp.. i assumed it was mtp from what he told me, but he was wrong haha. now it's working fine!!... so yeah, ignore this post! Hi Gary,
Well guess what...I've tried the UMS trick again and it all seems to be working OK now. Don't know what went wrong as it's not the first time I've done this, but many thanks to you for getting back so quickly to help me resolve the problem, much appreciated! Think thats one of the things I love about my H10, you never know whats going to happen next.....and it's not an i-plod!! Cheers, wonderloaf |
