Should I load the [MTP] Iriver Firmwae Updater v2.5.0.0, dated Mar 29, 2007? I use WMP to sync with my device. I currently have Firmware v2.5.1.

if you are connecting correctly. then no. The updater is only for updating or reinstalling firmware

EDIT: Realize this is my 2000th post.

Yes, I'm connecting. I'm about to upgrade to WMP 11 and wanted to know if the current firmware ([MTP] v2.51) will work.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO WMP11!!!

there is no version of H10 firmware compatible with WMP11. just stay with WMP10. search the forum for "WMP11" and see what you get.

As one who did upgrade to WMP 11 in ignorance, I have to agree. If you are perfectly happy with WMP 10, and you are using it to synch, then DO NOT upgrade. You cannot synch to the H10 with WMP 11, there is just no compatibility.

However, I have to say that I am actually much happier now that I can drag and drop to my H10, using the UMS trick and Easy H10. It's much better than synching. I just make sure that WMP 11 is not running when my H10 is connected to my PC. And WMP 11 is actually a bit nicer, particularly with video, IMO.

I used to exclusively use the drag and drop feature and never used WMP to synch, but since I upgraded to WMP11 for streaming to my Xbox 360, I started using WMP11 to sync my H10 20GB and have had no problems whatsoever.

WMP10 was screwing up sync's so often that I went to WMP11. It's not perfect, but works much better than 10 for me. I have the h10/20mg and windows XP/SP2.

WMP11 troubles

It seems WMP11 screws it up for some players only. I have the T20 and it killed the uploading feature, still trying to figure out via different channels (forum users: HELP!!! I'M DESPERATE!!!) the solution to this problem. Maybe the H10/20 are not affected?...

Currently awaiting reply from iRiver helpdesk, curious how they will solve this issue without confiscating my player for months...

Thumbs up WMP 11 is great!!

Before I loaded WMP 11, I deleted all my playlists and albums from my H10 thru WMP 10. Browsed the HD to make sure that eveything was erased. Then I upgraded to WMP 11 and sync to my device. Every thing is working fine, no problems at all!! Note: All my music is ripped in wma format.

I like WMP 11 better than WMP10.

What model of iRiver player do you have? Most reports here are just the opposite of yours, namely WMP11 has hosed up folks being able to use their iRiver with their computer. BTW what OS are you running on your computer?

Gary

Not that I use Windows Media stuff much, but got a DRM'd download recently and used WMP11 to transfer it onto my H10 6GB MTP with 2.51 firmware and it worked fine. I've even used EasyH10 since (as I normally do) to rebuild the database and the transferred files still work (i.e. the DRM is intact).

Obviously the H10 needs to be in MTP mode (as mine is by default being an MTP model).

Oh, and this is via XP Home SP2 on my laptop (haven't tried on my XP Pro desktop).
