new and old battery only last 2-3 hrs - broken transistor

I recently got a replacement battery from eBay, at first it seemed like it lasted about four hours which was disappointing, but more recently it seems more like two about a couple of weeks later. same in rockbox and original firmware.

also when I have plugged it in to the wall just now, and I switch it on with the green light, it says low battery...how is this possible? it seems like the battery went to zero while the player was off, it's the first time that happens in the last two or three weeks.

problem is when I changed it, the screwdriver slipped because the screws were very hard and I completely cracked off a little resistor that went flying and I couldn't find it. oddly enough it seems to work perfectly but I don't know if this might have affected battery life I doubt it.I think it's probably digital or something I haven't used...

please help what's going on?
