Horrible squealing from my H10
Hello everyone. I have a very annoying problem that pops up periodically on my H10 (20 GB).
When listening to radio shows I have recorded with the H10, I occasionally get the following sequence of events - - The volume fades out, sometimes on one channel and then the other - A brief silence - A squeal which rises in pitch and volume to painful levels. If I stop playing the particular recording and then start again, the squeal remains. If I switch to another recording, no squeal - although the squeal may begin at some point. I can go back to the first recording at some other time and not have the same problem, so it doesn't seem to be coming from the recording itself. This sequence has never occured when listening to music that I transferred to the device, but that could be coincidence, since I listen to radio recordings most of the time. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could send my way. I love my H10, especially for time-shifting radio shows, but this problem is really, really annoying. Thanks in advance. |

The answer is to stop listening to radio shows that broadcast loud squealing noises
No, but seriously, have you listened to the afflicted recordings on your computer or anywhere else? Are you sure it's the player and not the file that's at fault? And welcome to MR - mind the trout |

Yep, it's not the recording. I can listen to the same recording at other times and not have any of the symptoms.
I have tried resetting the H10 and rebuilding the database, but the problem still periodically appears. Any other suggestions very welcome! |

Noise
Hi,
I had the same kind of problem with my H10 5gb (UMS firmware loaded). Read somewhere about a new UMS firmware that took care of the problem. It has something to do with the EQ settings. I had changed to someting like rock and it was making the noise. I changed to Normal EQ and the problem went away. I never did load the verision I was reading about but just what was causing the problem. Hope this helps. |
