What is the deal with iRiver - No Support?

What is the deal with iRiver? I sent a request for info on how I can get my battery replaced on my H10 20GB, they sent me a reply to fax them some info on my player and personal info, and I did about 10 minutes after I got the reply, I check to day and they just closed the item, with no response or anything.

How can I get a new battery for an H10 20GB if iRiver won't help me? been over a week since I started trying to get some help from them.

Wow $65 for battery replacement
the LiPo is like $25-$30 I can install on if I can just find the right pack.
Guess I should check the RCGroups forums

Can't get them to answer the phone, on hold for 35 minutes now, got hung up on twice before talking to a person, they have closed my open RMA requests with no response, and no email responses going on two weeks, i was going to buy another iRiver player to replace my H10 but I cannot give my money to a company that refuses to even talk to me through any outlet. unbelievable.

DO NOT BUY AN iRIVER IF YOU WANT A SUPPORTED PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Hm, thats strange.

When I had some questions/problems about my H10, they would reply back by 2 days tops by email.

Unfortunately that seems to be pretty common with DAP manufacturers.

I considered buying a Gigabeat before, only to be told that "Toshiba's support is crap"... then you have the infamous "iPod rage" and the reputation that Creative seems to have acquired.

iRiver might not bother too much with support if they're scaling back in the western markets... but it'll leave a nasty impression if they decide to "return" later.

G/L bud.

Get Part?

Has anyone found the battery as a part anywhere? $65 is
outrageous! My H10 is still under warranty and the battery is fine but once the warranty is up I'll replace it myself if I can find the part.

I'll tell you what's outrageous:

out·ra·geous: adjective-1. of the nature of or involving gross injury or wrong; 2. grossly offensive to the sense of right or decency; 3. passing reasonable bounds; intolerable or shocking; 4.violent in action or temper, 5. highly unusual or unconventional; extravagant; remarkable.

Strange post but it pretty well sums up $65 dollars for a battery replacement.

Creative do suck. Called 'em three times about my faulty MuVo Slim and they didn't do squat for me. Gave up, returned it to the original shop and bought my H10. =) had no problems with it so far, except a hard disk problem i'm going to call iriver about later on... time will tell.

MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT BUY AN IRIVER PRODUCT IF YOU WANT ANY KIND OF SUPPORT, AND THE DAY YOUR WARRANTY RUNS OUT TOUGH LUCK, THEY WON"T EVEN SELL YOU THE BATTERY IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE IT YOURSELF.

(Can't even sell me a battery for a product that they made and hold me hostage, in order to try and force me to buy a new player?) Sorry to those that use my LogScrobbler for Rockbox, it does not look like I have a Rockbox Compatible player any longer(Not that I made any updates in a while)

the response I finally got from iRiver:

iriver America Response: (01/07/2007 05:01)
Hello,
Iam Sorry we do not sell or ship seperate parts the player is only covered during the one year period. We need Proof of purchase to verify the warranty.
Based on the time-frame of when your Player was initially purchased, we cannot offer an exchange nor repair your player.

We can only offer service / exchanges for Players should they be within a one year Warranty period, based on the time-frame of when the item is originally purchased.

Please refer to our Warranty conditions at:

We apologize for any inconvenience.

sorry but that is just F'ed up.

Does Anybody have a suggestion on a good (sub $200)player that has user replaceable batteries, and a battery life over 10 hours, with at least 8GB HD(Video not nessisarry but might be nice) oh yeah and most importantly not an iRiver or iRiver affiliated product? if it can run Rockbox that's a plus!!!

Battery as a part

Someone's got to rip an H10 apart to see what battery that is. Mine's working fine and under warranty so i'm not about to rip it apart. I doubt Iriver makes their own batteries. $65 is half the price of a new one as of last Christmas ($139 at JR music). Why should Iriver care once the warranty has elapsed?

druidfire217: Do MiscticAudio handle non-American customers as well?

kernelsandirs: IIRC Cowon offered to happily replace the batteries of their out-of-warranty DAPs... but like iRiver, they're now supposed to be withdrawing their HDD models, to focus more on their native Asian market.

As I mentioned earlier, there's no real guarantee you'll do any better with another brand... maybe minidisc players are an option.

The battery part is listed on the rockbox site as being the same as in the h300's IIRC. This means that h10 20gig owners should be able to do what we do and use 2200mAh ipod batteries. More specifically those sold as replacements for 1st & 2nd gen ipods. To install one you would have to check the polarity of the original against your old h10 batteries and then work out if the high capacity ipod batteries would fit into the h10 case (Since they are high capacity they are slightly larger).

There's a link in my sig with many sources of the said batteries.

I see. Denim is always an option? Definately not the chic, she isn't very funny IMO. Sorry for being off topic

I found your link to the replacement at nupower, and I am waiting to see if I can get Barry from Rockbox to confirm or whether he know it will fit since he disassembled the H10(Hope he knows, I have not heard of one person in these forums as of yet that replaced an H10 20G battery by themseleves
If I can for sure get(buy) the right size battery I can certainly replace it myself, of course it'd be nice to put in a higher mAH battery)

Not trying to offend, but thats the kind of thing that I believe all current and potential buyers should know about iRiver before making a decision to buy.
also there is no reason why a replacement would only get you only 3 hours of playback unless there is a hardware issue, or he purchased the wrong battery/low mAH pack. Although 3 hours would be a huge improvement over the three songs I can play now before LVC.
