Stuck on System Initializing and other problems
I got my H10 10 days ago and so far I am pretty unimpressed. A lot of songs on the player made it freeze when I played them, they are all normal mp3s than work perfectly when played on my computer. I decided to do a database refresh but the clock sign was on for ages so I assumed it had crashed yet again. I pressed reset, now when I turn the player one it says 'System Initializing Please Wait' and the clock sign, this stays on for ages. I have pressed reset and left the player for a couple of hours, nothing has changed. The player is refurbished so for the money I wasn't expecting something perfectly brand new, however this is just ridiculous. Help would be appreciated, if it doesn't work properly in the next couple of days I'm sending it back.

Try taking your music off it (if it already isnt backed up on your computer), and reformatting. Then put it in UMS mode once the music is back on and download and run EasyH10. It should solve your problem. I do not know why, but database refresh has caused my player to freeze as well. Stick with EasyH10.

I managed to drag-and-drop some songs onto it when it was in UMS mode and I can see that they are on the hard drive because it's on the sync screen in WMP. However whenever I turn the player on when it is not connected to the player It says 'System Initializing Please Wait' and the clock sign.
When I plug it in and look at the folders I can't see any System/Data folder. |

I have the 20GB version. I downloaded the firmware update from here: http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/mtpupdate/
I have re-downloaded the file on the link above 3 times but the .exe file in the .zip refuses to open, I have disabled my firewall and anti-virus so that isn't it. I'm just going to send it back because the warranty is still valid. |

I have started a thread about this problem on the iriver forums:

I think the theory about non picture/music files messing it up could be true, I selected all of the files in my music folder and drag-and-dropped them onto the player, there were several non-compatible files in there. When I looked in System/Data there were some files which I think I inadvertently put in there. I cleared it and when I pressed reset and re-connected the player the problem hadn't gone away. Does anyone have a list of the files that should be in the hidden folders?

Same problem
My screen is also stuck on system initializing, and I tried to do the firmware on it, but when its on the system initializing, my computer doesn't even think there is anything plugged into the usb port. And I can get it to go into ums mode. I basically cant do anything with my iriver, what do i do?!?
btw, its an h10 20gb, could the fact that in one sitting i put about 18 gigs on it be the problem and i need to just wait it out? |

Hum... I've had database refreshes freeze my player before, but they were easy enough for me to fix, just reset the player, connect in UMS mode, wipe the drive and restart from a clean firmware install, resync music, and done... Takes a good few hours from start to finish but only ever had to do it three or four times.
When you say you can't get into UMS mode, what do you mean? Are you holding the select button (the O button) down when turning the player on while it's connected to the computer? |
