6GB Color Connection Problems
I have an iRiver H10 6GB Colour. I ripped all of my CDs into MP3 format with LAME and EAC so I could get my preferred bitrate etc.
The H10 insists on me copying music via Windows Media Player using that Windows Portable Device (WPD) thing. But when I do that, WMP gets all clever and starts converting my music to WMAs. In the options it doesn't offer any alternative, why can't it just leave my files alone? According to some other websites, the player should show up in My Computer but it doesn't. So what I need is, either a way to get WMP to just copy and not convert, or another program that will copy to the player (I've tried a couple but they can't see the player so it would have to be something that does whatever MPW does to work I guess) or, better still, a way to get my player to show up in My Computer. Noticed that Enumeration thread but this doesn't quite match any of the problems there since mine does show up and work in WMP, just not in My Computer. Thanks in advance. |

You can convert your player from MTP (that's the acronym you were looking for
http://www.misticriver.net/wiki/inde...rsion:_MTP/UMS After the conversion it will simply appear as a drive in My Computer which you can copy and paste stuff to. After you've added your music, you will need to run "EasyH10" (http://easyh10.sourceforge.net/) to update the database. Enjoy! |

Ah forgot to say, tried that and I can't get it to enter that mode. It just turns on normally.
Also means I can't update the firmware, running 1.01 at the moment. I should probably add that I copied a load of music to the player when I got it (September) and haven't ever sync'd it since. Now I wanted to put some new music on it I can't get it to work, but I honestly cannot remember whether I did it in WMP or not before. I didn't install any extra stuff so it was either WMP or Windows Explorer. |

Yes, doing that exactly, stopped holding it after like 1 minute, I assumed it takes a few seconds.
Seing as I used to have MP3s on my player there must be a standard way to get them on there. Can WMP not just copy my files without converting them to WMA? |

I only have WMP11 up right now so I'm going from memory:
Right click on your device in the left hand pane while it is connected. Properties. Advanced (?) Find the check box that says convert my music files and uncheck it. By default it shouldn't be on so it must have gotten changed at some point. As to not seeing it in My Computer, try going to the run line and type: regsvr32 audiodev.dll Then see if you get an H10 icon under My Computer. If not you should still be able to get to it through the removable devices icon in the classic control panel.

I just realised I have WMP 9 installed, I should probably upgrade it. Should i go for 10 or 11?
When I run that at command I get: "LoadLibrary("audiod ev.dll") failed - The specified moduel could not be found." I probably need to download that DLL from somewhere. |

Upgraded to WPM 10 with the auto-update thing, everything seems to be working now. Shows how often I use WMP that I can't even tell when I'm running a massively out of date version :P .
Still can't get the UMS thing to work but as long as I can copy in some form I can live without that. Thanks a lot for everyone's help. |

I'm suprised you got it to work at all in WMP9. Go for 10, right now there is a problem with 11 and the H10 that will cause intermitant hangs.

I still dont think you are doing the UMS trick properly.
Reset the player by taking the battery out for A minute. Connect your usb cable to your player and PC (with player still off). While holding the "0" button turn your player on and keep holding the "0" button until you see emergency connection on your players screen. |

Doing that exactly, doesn't work.
Anyway, once I installed WMP 10, it showed up in My Computer. I dragged and dropped all my music into the Music folder on the device (G:\Media\Music I think it was) and it plays on the H10. So I don't see the need for UMS mode, unless I'm missing something...? |

Well the computer thing isn't an issue and I keep all my music on it so only bother to sync it once a month or so. However I would like to update the firmware.
For no reason at all, doing the exact same thing as before, it now boots into UMS. Windows can't find the right driver for it though. I get the following message: Quote:

The file I renamed was just for the USB driver since someone had uploaded the icon file with the wrong name. I installed the newest MTP drivers which worked fine. So I thought I'd give the UMS thing a go.
Bad idea http://www.misticriver.net/wiki/inde...rsion:_MTP/UMS I downloaded those exact files. When I got to this part: Quote:
