(6G UMS) System Files Missing: To Restore the System Files, connect H10...
There's been a bit of dicussion about this problem - with some solutions for the 20G.
I have a 6G, got the white box with the message System Files Missing: To Restore the System Files, connect H10 to iRiver plus and tried a few things - one of which worked. 1) connect the H10 to your PC and run chkdsk /r H: (where H is the volume the H10 appears to be when connected) 2) Copy BL_H10.rom to H:\ 3) Unplug the H10 from the USB connection, then plug it back in 4) Copy H10.mi4 to H:\System (which is a hidden folder - either enter the name directly in the Win Explorer navigator bar or set H: so you hidden files/folders are visible) 5) Unplug the USB cable. My 6G came right back. Note - I got the idea to try this from the "how to change your MTP player to UMS" in the wiki. Also - I suspect that steps 1, 2, and 3 are unnecessary - but those are the steps I followed (basically setting my H10 to UMS again, which, I was pretty sure, would replace the firmware that my H10 was complaining about being "missing"). The next time I have this problem (if ever) I'll try skipping those steps and see if that works... I had BL_H10.rom and H10.mi4 on my PC, left over from converting my MTP player to UMS some while back. Maybe someone can post a link to wherever they are now? PS: both iriverFirmwareUpdate r.exe and Iriver Plus were of no help. Maybe there's a separate "recovery tool" that I don't know about? |

I have the 5GB UMS version and whenever i have had the system files missing i just hook it up to iriver plus and everything is fine again. Never had to do any of the steps explained above. In fact iv only had to do it once in 15 months.

K, you seem to have the same version as I do. You bought yours in Korean right? Or thats its origin... Where do you get ur firmware for it? .. I find the Korean Firmware and the US stuff is different... My h10 5G hasn't been the same since I loaded on the Korean stuff, then went back to the American Update, just wondering if you've ever noticed any of this... |

I bought mine in the UK. It is the international version, which is also UMS. It came with European UMS firmware. You probably also have the UMS version, so you should not be putting US firmware on it. Put UMS (international) firmware on it. US firmware is MTP.

to clarify what i said above:
the player appears in windows explorer as a removeable disk. when trying to open it it gives me the message that i need to insert a disk. when i click on it and view protperties it says that it has 0 bytes free and 0 bytes used. then, while i was playing around with it, i was able to access it however, i was nt able to transfer any files to it. this seems to be poiting to brken hard drive. is that right? |

It does seem to be pointing to a U/S hard drive. If it is within its warranty i would RMA it.

I was recently in Ireland where a good friend offered me a 6GB I10, so i have no way of giving this back to the shop. Tekram (or anyone else), did you manage to resolve it? |

Hello, I am a newbie to this site. I have a h10 6GB. I tried converting the player to a UMS mode and got the "To restore the system files, connect H10 TO iriver plus" message. I've read all these posts and tried the above mentioned steps, but nothing helped. Any ideas? Can I restore the player back to the MTP mode?

I am not sure what you mean with your post. When I connect to my PC it recognizes the H10 as a UMS, and I get the "USB connected" message. I am able to load up music, and I am able to play the songs through the PC, but when I disconnect from the PC the same message about the missing system files comes back on and stays there. To shut it off, I have to remove the battery. Are there actual files missing? and if so, is there a way of replacing them? I have tried using the iriver Firmaware Updater v2.2.0.0 both in the update and recovery option to no avail.
Thank you. |
