Advice on UMS/MTP My new H1020gb

Ok just got a H10 20gb I bought it as a Christmas present for the other half. It took ages coming because they had all sold out before Christmas finally got it at the end of January. I have a few questions.

This UMS/MTP thing? I'm fairly sure that I have a European (I’m in the UK bought it from a UK website) MTP version. On initialisation it says "boot 1.02 MTPinitialize" and on the setting page it says ‘Firmware v.1.02emtp’

When I plug it into the USB port Windows pipes up and asks if I want to synchronize with wmp10. I say yes and it synchronizes which works fine, except I dislike wmp10 (I prefer Winamp).

However contrary to most descriptions I've read here it also appears under the ‘my computer’ menu as "iriver h10 20gc". I can drag and drop to the ‘media>music’ folder on the player and the files go in fine. I can then access them either through the ‘music’ or ‘browser’ options and play them. They are a little messed up in the listings (albums don't appear correctly etc.) but I suspect that’s because they mostly mp3’s sourced from p2p sources and therefore have messed up file names? The playlist options such as 'my favorites' and 'recently played' work fine as well.

So do I need to do the UMS trick if I can already drag and drop files? Also If I update the firmware will I find that the drag and drop feature no longer works? I like the look of EasyH10 which appears to need to use the UMS trick; if I do it will I sacrifice any other features?

Thanks in advance for your help
Mark.

You have always been able to do drag and drop with MTP devices. It is just slower (and the UI less functional) then UMS players.

There is a link in my sig to a version of WinAmp that works with MTP devices - hope that helps you out...

Nope. Going this route gives you most all of the same features. The two exceptions are:
1) No protected content
2) No auto sync functionality

Don't like WMP? WinAmp MMJB Yahoo! Real Napster J. River MediaMonkey all work with MTP devices.
Think apple's iPoo doesn't stink? Check their forums.
