Unhappy US iRiver in the UK

Basically I'm planning on saving myself some money and importing an iRiver h10 6GB.

On slight problem is I am worried about compatability issues.

Has anyone experience of MP3 in different countries? I would like any informations on firmware and compatability with napster to go if avalible,

thanks.

As far as I currently understand (and excuse me if I'm wrong, I don't own an H10, nor am I likely to) - US H10's are MTP only - UK H10's are both MTP/UMS compatible. It's up to you which FW you use when you buy a UK H10, rather than being forced to use the official US MTP FW for a US H10.

Of course, you can use the UMS FW with a US player, but if it ever goes to buggery, you might have some problems trying to RMA it ...

As I say, excuse me if I appear to be talking out of my ar*e, but that's the way I'd perceived the situation given my brief readings of H10 threads ...

However, if they are buying the H10 specifically for use with Napster 2 Go, then an MTP player is exactly what they want! So the US H10 would fit the bill nicely, if it can be had at a good price.

Thanks for the input guys - I don't get the lingo but I'm guessing from all that it would work fine with naspter to go then.

All H10 6gb bought in Europe are MTP (and so are units bought in the US).

My H10 6gb bought in the UK is curently using f/w 2.10E MTP

It means it doesn't matter if you buy a US or EU 6GB H10. They are identical, and both work with Napster2Go.

However, if you don't like the Fwench government telling you how loud your music should be, use a 2.10 firmware other than 2.10E (2.10 or 2.10US)!

Yes, you're good to go 'n' get a UK version (if you want) - from the AMP3 H10 desciption;

The iriver H10 is now MTP Janus compatible - this means that it will work with all subscription based download websites such as Virgin, Napster, HMV etc. The iriver H10 now works directly with Windows Media Player

Hi Lyle,

Do you know how I can change my f/w from a 2.10E to a non EU version? I did go to the iRiver US site and used the updater to download 2.10 US but when i checked it still said 2.10E.

Thanks
Zak

Zaka - you might want to try and search here.

The US and UK/Europe are now both MTP (originally, it was just the States).
