I can't seem to make my h10 connect...
I'm lost...I just purchased a h10 5gb, and i've done all the installation properly, done the update, uninstalled it, reinstalled it and everything....my computer detects it(I plug it in and it says new hardware device detected), but windows media player doesn't detect it at all...talked to someone at the support line, and they figured it may have been defective, so i exchanged it, and it's the same problem. I've downloaded media player updates and have the windows service packs...still, nothing.
Any suggestions? |

do you happen to have a pentium computer you can try it on?
if so and it works there, at least you would know that it's probably an amd issue....

Steff, I have this exact same problem on my Dell 8100. I've tried everything I've found on this board so far, but no luck. I also called iRiver support and they took me through a few things, but it didn't change the situation. They know there is compatibility problems with select computers, and are investigating, but don't have a solution yet.
I tried the iriver on another computer and it worked fine, so it is definitely something on my computer. The player will work fine on the Dell in UMS mode (search for the "UMS trick" and you'll see how to put it into that mode). However, I haven't gotten the player to play any of my music that I purchased online and which requires licenses. The mode the player normally uses is called MTP, and it is new. I know there are firmware updates for the 5 Gb, but don't know if they will fix this problem. You might try a firmware upgrade. |

I'm going to dull this down to the smallest baby step.
Did you hit SYNC on WMP? *don't hit me!* Serious question. I've had my player for 6 months and didn't even attempt the Windows Media Player until this one.

hey dude, I think it is a software issue. I have the 20GB, and it used to work just fine with Yahoo Music Engine (DRM crap) in MTP mode. But I ended up formatting it and reinstalling the sytem files, and now it only shows up in UMS mode, which doesn't help for your DRM needs. I'm going to try removing WMP10 and reinstalling, maybe uninstalling the device in the device manager.

Alot of people dont like having to sync with WMP so they do the UMS trick and use EasyH10. If you are using it in UMS mode you will not be able to play your lisenced DRM music though. There is a way around that as well, but i dont use it as i rip my music from original source, i have never downloaded music online.

I had same problem with my H10-20Gb, even after installing WMP-10 and checking everything else. I found this on MS site:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ormat95sdk.exe I downloaded it and installed it, vola H10 was there. It has to do with MTP Device recognition. The H10 is a Media Transfer Protocol device. The 95 does not refer to Win95. It's for XP. Worked for me....I recommend a system restore point be set before installing... |
