H10 won't connect or stay connected--one person's experience

I've been experiencing major problems getting WMP10 to recognize my H10. Then, once it does, it seems to lose the H10 after a short time (60 seconds or so).

Dusted off my wife's old PC. After a fresh install of XP, SP2, WMP10, and Napster, I tried again. Plugged the H10 into the PCI USB2.0 card and was told by the system that was plugging a hi-speed USB device into a low-speed USB port. Aaargh! I forgot to install the drivers for the PCI card, but I went ahead and sync'd up the H10 anyway. Took forever, but it worked.

Then, I installed the drivers for the PCI card so the system would recognize it as USB2.0. Rebooted and reconnected the device. Sure enough, the old problem returned.

Fortunately, the on-board USB ports for this antique machine are USB1.1. I plugged the H10 into one of those and I'm back in business again.

My primary PC is all USB2.0. I have a printer, external hard drive, and other stuff hooked up to it. When I plugged in the H10, my (USB2.0) external hard drive would start reporting write failures. Unplug the H10, the write failures go away.

So, it seems as though there is a problem with the H10 and USB2.0, at least on my H10 anyway. I haven't been able to discuss this with iRiver because their phone is constantly busy.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else who is having a similar problem can replicate this solution. Or is it just my H10? I'd love to use USB2.0, but that just doesn't seem to be an option for me.
