Question about firmware and iRiver plus, oh, and the play order
I read that review by jeff, and the watched the movie, brillant stuff, really got me turned on, and not like that, it's a different movie I watch for that sort of entertainment, re-runs of last years snooker world championships.
Some of the review worried me though. So, the US/UK version of the player seems to be fundamentilly different from the Korean version. From your review I was left a little confused. Is it possiable to download the an english version of the iRiver Plus software? Also, what is the deal with firmware, is it difficult to get them, or just impossable? The other question was to do with the play order, is the play order of albums dictated by the file name as well, or is it just the list of songs that is in alphabetical order? |

From what I can tell there's going to be different versions of the firmware for the different units. I.E. you can't load the Korean firmware on the US unit.
The US unit has no firmware updates at this time. Apparently the way you load the new firmware is to download and run a program on your computer, or download and store a file on the H10. The details are not yet released so we're guessing how it would be done around here. Right now, simply put, the play listing is borked. The only way to get a correct order for songs is to manually create a playlist on your computer. In other words, you'll have to create a new playlist, by hand, having to type it in yourself, and then sync it with the H10. Good luck if you have 300+ CD's like me. But, I'm hopeful.

as am I, that is a real shame that there is not one worldwide device that operates with the same hardware and software. And it is a really real shame that the unit does not play songs in the right order. Butfrom what I've seen, this looks like the best unit iRiver have produced, but will they get it perfect? Is there any word on whether the iRiver plus program will be released for the uk/us versions?

It could be that someone has a patent on the software/invention in the U.S.--if there's no patent in Korea, you could use the software there but not in the U.S., thereby stopping iRiver from being able to sell it here. A shame, that.
