Exclamation H320 won't upgrade firmware!

Hello everyone,

I've searched this forum up and down and can't find a solution to this problem I'm having. I have the original US 1.02 firmware installed, and I want to upgrade it. I've tried the latest Korean and US firmwares, and none of them take. I follow the instructions by copying the .hex file to the root and choose Upgrade Firmware from the menu. It gives me the screen telling me it's upgrading and not to touch it, and powers off just like it's supposed to.

I power it back on and it still has the same firmware, 1.02. No matter what I do, it won't upgrade. Can someone please offer some suggestions? I've tried resetting it and restoring the factory defaults. I wanted to mess around with Rockbox, but can't from my existing firmware.

Someone please help!

Thanks,
nueve

Hello and welcome to the misticriver forums. Um.... did you uncompress the firmware zip folder before putting the hex file in your player? Have you removed the old hex file before installing the new one? Thats about all I can think of .

Yes, I unzipped the firmware file and placed the .hex on my HDD. I didn't remove the old one because there isn't an old one. Prior to placing the new .hex file in the root, there was no original .hex file.

After I posted this, I started trying to use a rockbox patched firmware and I was getting crc errors trying to copy over the .rockbox folder. I did some searches on that and found that really great thread that instructs how to repair the HDD. I ran chkdsk with the repair options on it all last night and finished this morning. Afterwards, I'm able to copy files over with no problems at all. I copied the patched rockbox firmware over and tried to upgrade to that, but it does the same thing. Goes through all the same motions as if it is actually upgrading, and then turns off, (the battery is full and the ac adapter is plugged in). I turn it back on and I'm still sitting at 1.02 US firmware. I can NOT get off of this version. Is there some sort of pre-requisite or setting that must be changed prior to upgrading the firmware? Mine seems sort of un-upgradable... like read-only.

Thanks for the response... this is driving me crazy.

ISSUE RESOLVED! whew. Apparently, this was an issue with my HDD. The full chkdsk seems to have corrected all issues and allowed the firmware to be upgraded. It should be noted that I did have to download the KR 1.29 HEX file (not the .exe) from ROCKBOX (not iRiver) and rename that to H300.HEX and use that to upgrade. I doubt that the prior HEX files were the problem.

Thanks to everyone.

I really don't have any more suggestions . If you do no good here it would be well worthwhile asking at rockbox as they have a fair bit of expertise on firmware. If you get it sorted can you post your solution here , thanks.

Could someone help me with making my US H320 capable of using video. I have heard it can be done, just I don't know how.
Thanks.

You can change your firmware to International but it will also disable DRM forever.
