RIP my H140?

Hello!

I wonder if you can help me?

Knowing very little about anything vaguely IT related, I fear I may have reached a dead end with my Iriver H140. The charger died and it took me a long time to track down a new one. By the time I got a new one, the Iriver wasn't working anymore. Well,. it had enough battery to switch on and say "low battery" and then switch off again, but it doesn't seem to recognise the new charger (usually a light on the iriver goes green when the charger is plugged in). I'm pretty sure it's the right charger because it's the same as the last one I bought, which lasted for a while. I've made sure it's on the correct voltage setting (it's a multivoltage charger). Does this sound like I need a new battery? If so, can anyone tell me how i can get hold of one?

I hope you can help me. Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

Clare x

Are you sure the replacement charger is working? It could be it's defective/incomputable and this is may be the reason why it's not recharging yyour player/

As a seperate test, did you try to recharge it through the USB port?

Umm....
The h1xx series doesn't have usb charging .Though you can charge from the usb port of your pc if you use a minisync cable
miniSync - H140 Retractable Cable / iRiver H140 Retractable Cable / H140 USB Cable / iRiver H140 USB Cable

Clarebear do as M.H said and check the charger is functioning , or have it tested . (do not try it at a higher voltage as it will destroy your player). Normally the green light should come on even if the battery is dead flat.
Also check the polarity is correct (center pin is positive).
There is a list of alternative chargers and specs here Alternative Chargers for the H100's in case you might have one at home you could use.
Normally the green light should come on even if the battery is dead flat.

how to test

I have just encountered the same exact situation. My battery went out while using my ihp-140 at a party, then the charger got dropped. Now the player isn't doing anything and there is no light when plugging it in. I don't get a low battery screen when I try to power up, just nothing. So I am trying to figure out if I need a new charger or completely new player (which could have also been dropped when I wasn't looking) This is my second charger, ordered from iriver directly.

Is there a way to test the charger somehow to distinguish whether it is my charger or player that is broken?

Easiest way is to use a multimeter and check if there is 5 volts coming out of the plug. If you dont have a multi meter then have the charger checked at a electrical repair shop. (don't let them test your player unless they know what they are doing , make sure they know the player must have 5volts maximum and the correct polarity or it will be destroyed).

It cannot be stressed enough,

Before using a third party charger on your DAP, ENSURE that the voltage AND polarity are correct, polarity for the H1xx series MUST be center pin positive, if not, you will fry your player.

Hi there. I'm also having a problem with my Iriver H140. It seems to have developed a fault where when I have charged it, using the original AC adapter provided, the battery lasts for no more than a couple of hours. Also when the iriver is not connected to the power supply the symbol in the top right corner shows the one for charging rather than the symbol showing how much battery is left.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

How old is your battery? You may want to replace it, if its only holding a few hours. This may cause some problem with the symbol in the corner, but I couldn't confirm that.

How does rockbox work out?

It's got the original battery, so the battery is about 3 years old.

The iriver doesn't have rockbox.

Can you try to plug it in, and then try to play music while in the charger?

3 year old battery. That, is the problem. If it wasn't sitting in a fridge, it's likely run its course. Time to make the doughnu... I mean, time for a new battery.

That's what i had figured, but i thought to make completely sure, a plug-in would verify.

Thanks for the responses. I can use the iriver when it's plugged into the charger. So I guess it's time to get a new battery. How would I go about doing this?

Ther are directions here H1xx Internal Battery Replacement - MisticRiverWiki
The best brand of battery to get is the cameron sino and most get it from Lickety Split on ebay.

My original battery has lasted for 4 years plus. But, then again, I usually play my player plugged in, either at work or in the car (done precisely to preserve the battery).
