Newbie Floating Down The Mistic River

diconnected error

Hello,
I am getting a disconnected message in the iriver music manager.
I have the 512 MB Iriver mp3 player, T30MX

It is connected to the USB and the messageon the iriver is USB Connected.
Does anyone have any idea as to what I am doing wrong and how I can troubleshoot this?
