Angry T60 Firmware update without Updater

Hi!

I recently bought a T60 after years of abusing a IFP-899 and loving it! With the 899 i uploaded the American firmware to it so i did not get subjected to that stupid French law applied to every EU country which limits the volume.

I decided to upgrade the T60's firmware and was annoyed to find i had to use the Firmware Updater program which downloads the firmware and has no options to select a file having got updates from http://nyaochi.sakura.ne.jp/iriverupdate/.

Does anyone know what criteria the program employs when downloading firmware? Does it detect i am in the EU and get the appropriate firmware? Can firmware be updated without this program?

The volume on the T60 is too low! I was on the subway this morning listening to Playing The Angel by Depeche Mode, an album attacked for being too loud! I could not only hear the train but people next to me talking, with the volume on 40 (max)! My earphones are Shure EC4s, in ear noise cancelling and I do not have this problem using my IFP-899.

Sorry to any French people here but your law sucks! The EU sucks for forcing 25 member nations to have the law of 1!!

The updater downloads a .hex file into the player .swap the .hex file with the korean firmware .hex file you downloaded at the site you mentioned, this firmware has no volume restrictions.
Keep the player window open so you can see the music folders etc.you will see the updater putting the file in there.
Hope this helps,worked for me.

Thanks for your concern! I have used the Shure phones with my iRiver IFP-899 and Creative Zen with no ill effects. With both of those players they have to be "patched" with non-EU firmware as by law all players sold in the EU have to conform to Frances volume limit law.

Now, the sound is not a problem on modern albums but take an album like 1990's Violator by Depeche Mode which was mastered on the old systems.... the volume is too low!

Sure i could buy the remasters, why should i? Sure i could rip tracks and use compression to increase the volumes, why should i? I am a consumer who pays for products so why should i be limited by a law from a country i am not in.

So with all respect to you, it depends where you live, where you bought your player, what age of music you listen to and how sensitive your hearing is. I said it is too low for me and my music. Implying i am deaf if not helpful though i took it tongue in cheek!

Be lucky!
