iRiver H10 5GB Doesn't Work

Hi, I am new here and my iRiver is broken, The Problem is that when I turn it on it says the iRiver boot logo and in the bottom left corner it says UM 1.10. 10 Seconds later it says "System File Missing To Restore System Files, connect H10 to iriver plus." I do that and nothing happens, the iriver just says USB connected. I can't find it in My Computer or Computer management but it appears in Device Manager under Disk Drives. I have tried the MTPupdater & IRiverFirmwareUpdate r but no success. I also hold down the O button when doing the instructions but nothing happens.

I tried another computer but no success. Please help me....

Thanks

Missing system files basically means the bootloader can't find the system files on the hard drive. If the drive were accessible you would probably need to replace the firmware files via the installer or updater, whatever they refer to it as. Since it seems it's *not* accessible, I would hazard to guess that the drive may be shot and you might consider looking into getting a replacement.

I have an H10 5g in the same state. It's disappointing and frustrating to have it unusable given that of the five (5) Iriver players in our family this one was used the least and never abused in anyway. Given the number of problems with this model ( especially this particular problem ) you would think that IRiver would at least offer a token credit on a new player for owners of this model. I feel that my H10 20 g is on borrowed time too.

Seems that the 5 and 6 GB models in particular of the H10 series have had more problems than the 20 GB models, at least looking at the boards here... I have a 20 GB model myself and so far the only major issue, which I fixed, was the battery ending up shot.

As I said, you can try replacing the hard drive with another and see if that doesn't bring it back to usable life. You'll need to format the drive appropriately (drive label "H10" without the quotes, whatever the default sector size is (can't remember off the top of my head...)), and you'll have to reinstall the firmware once the drive is formatted, but it should work.
