T30 Connection problems

I have an iriver T-30. I've had is for several months and it's been working fine, until now. I neede to download some music to it. When I connect to my computer, it shows USB connect on the player; it shows up under My Computer. The Device Manager shows it to be connected properly. When I open it under My Computer, it shows "FAT 16 System". I never saw that before. When I click on that, it takes minutes to open, and only shows my "voice" folder. When I disconnect from the computer, the iriver is frozen and I have to take out the battery to unfreeze it. The MUsic folder is gone. See below.

I went to the iriver site to update my firmware. That didn't work, so I chose the option to re-format and upfdate. It appeared to reformat- said I would lose my music and I did, but firmware wasn't updated. Went throught the process again, this time I selected firmware update, and it appeared to complete, but when I checked, it was still the old version of firmware.

I have windows XP, WMP 11

Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?

You need to use WMP10 to update the firmware. The older firmware versions do not work with WMP11 - even to update the firmware. Once you have updated it you can go back WMP11.
