Yahoo Driving Directions On Your iRiver

I came across a great little web app on Digg that makes loading Yahoo driving directions on to your iRiver quite simple. Ipod Directions , while clearly designed for use with Apples brand of DAP's can be used on other platforms. The program works by turning your beginning and ending locations into a series of sequentially numbered .gif's that you download as a .zip file. The images alternate between a .gif file containing text directions (220x176) and a .gif map (180x120). Each turn or road name change produces a new pair of .gif files with written directions and a .gif illustration. I'm not sure which image types are supported across the iRiver product line, but in order to use these images on my H320 I ran a quick batch conversion on the unzipped folder with IrfanView. I turned the files from .gif's to jpegs and also bumped the resolution of the map images from 180x120 to 220x146. After loading the folder onto my iRiver it was just a matter of scrolling through the images to read the directions. This application works great and has me hoping that one of our fellow Mistics will take this idea and create a similar tool specifically for iRiver products.
